Budget Getaways ReviewPanini Apartment is a useful-to-know option if you find yourself in the Strand/Somerset West area. Apart from the possibility of making a full weekend of it, it also represents the wise man's alternative to running the N2 gauntlet at night! Think about it... While your fellow guests at some far-flung Winelands wedding are chewing their nails off in anticipation of the dreaded drive home you can dance the night away knowing you don't face a similar prospect. Situated in what is known as Strand North, two roads in from Beach Road, Panini is a mere five minute stroll (350m) to the beach. Although on the same property as the owner's house, access is via its own outside staircase. The interior is relaxed, yet tastefully decorated. The bedroom features an oak double bed and dressing table and good quality linen. The bathroom is ensuite, with bath and separate shower. Stepping into the living and kitchen area, this is open-plan and adequately spacious - while the apartment is designed for a couple, the couch can be turned into twin beds. The living area leads onto a balcony overlooking the Helderberg mountains - a good spot to recover from a hard day's malling or that post-wedding hangover. You will also find a private braai area staring over the main garden. As we said, the beach is a short walk away, which in our view is Panini's attraction. All linen and towels, full DSTV, restaurants nearby, all add up to a generally uncomplicated base within spitting distance of Cape Town's CBD.
