Budget Getaways Review
Serving a loyal base of mountain bikers, hikers and general weekend slackers, Bear Trap Lodge is a lovingly restored house overlooking a quiet street on the edge of Grabouw. As such it makes for an easy urban-rural base for a chilled group of buddies and their getaway toys - mountain bikes, binocs and bird books, boots, personalised braai tongs...
Sleeping a grand total of 10 guests, the house sports two twin rooms and two triples, all decked in quality linen and comfy furnishings. There are two shared bathrooms to deal with the load.
Living space is in no short supply, with a large equipped kitchen to whip up those pre-ride Banting breakfasts, a lounge with large dining table and fireplace for post-ride war tales, and two outdoor braai areas for Paleo man.
The front verandah is pleasant zone with an outlook over the dorp's comings and goings and the surrounding hills.
If you’re keen on bringing Fido along, this can be arranged on request with your host. The same goes for meals.
Secure off-street parking, quality laid-back accommodation, easy access to a smorgasbord of MTB and hiking routes in and around the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, a nice spread of farmstalls and restaurants, Bear Trap Lodge is a no-brainer for an active group getaway.
