Keen for a cosy stayover in historic Swellendam? Whether you intend exploring the dusty tracks of the Overberg or planning a trip to the Garden Route and leaving Cape Town late, Swellendam makes a pretty near perfect pitstop.
Country Haven Cottage is a quaint little two-bedroom cottage just off Swellendam’s well known Berg Street, and within a short stroll from the town's restaurants and shops, and Swiss-like backdrop of natural splendour.
The cottage has been tastefully restored, with wooden floors and antique furniture the dominant theme. It sleeps four comfortably in two rooms, a double and a twin, making it ideal for a couple or small family.
There’s a central bathroom with bath. The living room is open-plan to a small kitchen area, which includes a built-in indoor braai and spills out to a covered voorstoep shaded by a large tree.
The cottage also comes with TV (DSTV channels available on request) and air-con for the sultry summer months, plus secure off-street parking for added peace of mind.
In our book Country Haven Cottage is a worthwhile addition to any road trip: a handy and uncomplicated stop-over in pleasant surroundings, elegant furnishings and nice attention to detail, plus easy access to a pile of local attractions.
"Only low point of our stay was that a neighbour decided to go away for Easter and they left their dogs behind without anyone looking after them. The constant barking from the one dog resulted in us leaving a night earlier."

"It is a very beautiful little cottage. And the stoep is the perfect place to bake in the sun while reading your book. There is a over eager rooster that wakes you in the morning, but it reminds you that you are now in the country and far far away from the city. The only down point for us was that we went in the week, and the Drostdy museum workshop is right next to the cottage so there was a bit of noise during the day. But they are closed over the weekend and then it can only be bliss."
