Your Guide To The Best Cape Getaways
A waterside wallow
Our fleet of great getaways on the water's edge
It’s never that clear cut as to when a Cape winter is finally over, but with temperatures rising, it’s time to dust off the baggies, slap on the factor 50 and get yourselves down to the waters edge.
Whether you’re after a bit of beach and surf, or maybe just some chill time down on the the river banks, hey, if the setting’s right, even a big ol’ farm dam might take your fancy? Whatever floats your boat, we’ve got some wonderful waterside getaways, just waiting to be explored.
So, what makes a waterside getaway great?
A few key criteria spring to mind:
1. It’s all about proximity:
Let’s face it, having to slog along multiple miles of boiling hot footpath, lugging junior’s boogey board along, isn’t going to cut the mustard. Getting yourself submerged and settled should require minimal effort.
2. Take some toys:
Many waterside getaways provide a few canoes and kayaks for guests to use. Nothing better than quietly exploring a river course in the evening on a kayak. But don’t get bogged down with too much Paraphernalia, as long as the kids are busy, you could always find a quite spot, arm yourself with a fishing rod and a cold beer, and Bob's your aunty.
3. Good company:
Nothing beats a late afternoon braai on the deck with a bunch of mates, heading in for the occasional dip while the wors sizzles on the grid. So choose wisely, pull a crew together and book a larger getaway or a few cottages.
The heat is on, dive right in, and pick a great waterside wallow.
