Budget Getaways Review
Rocky Pools is a far cry from some of the face-brick monstrosities along this stretch of the coast.
As far as beach houses go, it sits way near the top of the pile – tasteful design, unobstructed views, and an uncluttered interior befitting the ideal beach holiday.
As the name suggests, Rocky Pools is protected from the ocean by a buffer of jagged rock pools and coastal fynbos. A short stroll to the left leads to Penguin Point and its population of quirky birds, while an amble to the right lands you on Betty’s long moody beach.
The prime setting is exploited with a shady veranda equipped with lime-washed Morris-style furniture, and a sheltered braai area built around the local rock.
Stepping through the wide glass sliding doors (again, a sensible choice), the interior is spotless and the fittings and fabrics tastefully coordinated. Kilims, downlighters, DSTV (with a choice of four remote controls!) a dishwasher and WiFi internet, lend a definite luxurious touch, complemented by screed floors and cretestoned walls.
A 3-bedroomed house, the main bedrooms are ensuite and have wide ocean views from their queen-size beds, while the open-plan living area is spacious and conducive to a very sociable weekend, combining a newly-fitted kitchen, a long dining table and comfy couches set around a massive hearth for those dark and stormy nights.
A good choice if you can afford the price tag.

"The property was situated in a magnificent position. We found the house to be needing a good clean, it was dusty throughout, the outside furniture needed to be washed down before we could put any cushions on it, bird droppings all over the patio, kitchen. glasses, utensils and plated were not clean. Seems like the dishwasher does not work. Lounge furniture is filthy, and is covered with a throw. Security is a problem in the area, as the neighbors were burgled the nigh we were there. No welcoming touches like, tea, coffee, sugar, a load of wood, flowers, never met the owners needed to fetch ad drop key at a shop. The linen was clean and the beds were ok, but we found it very expensive for the condition that it is in."

Dear Lynne, thank you for your feedback. I am, however hugely dismayed by the negative feedback. Sadly we cannot do anything about the birds, mongoose as well as the wind that blows fine sand onto the stoep. I pride myself on cleanliness. My staff take all the furniture out and scrub the floors, etc
Dishwasher replaced recently. Not sure how all dishes could have been dirty. Throws on sofas due to pets. Fully self catering, BYO policy, security a problem everywhere. Noted, thank you.

"We arrived at Rocky Pools on a Friday evening after a hectic week at work and the moment I walked through the door, I felt the stress fall away. The main feature of the house is the living room which has been decorated in a comfortable and tasteful fashion and the kitchen includes the height of luxury in a holiday home: a dishwasher! We were two couples and three singletons, but as the bunk beds were comfortable, I didn't mind too much that I couldn't sleep on the very big and fluffy queen-sized beds. Thanks for a truly relaxing weekend, Michelle."

"We all joined up together to have a family getaway, and what an experience, to open your curtains in the morning, and watch the sea and the waves. We even saw a whale!The town itself is very quaint, but you can get everything that you would need. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rocky Pools and would very quickly return to the wonderful and comfortable setting. Anyone who is considering staying there, it is definitely good value for money and don't forget to watch the waves in the evenings as we discovered they shine green at night!! Thank you again."
