Budget Getaways Review
A compact and cosy little cottage on a working farm near Bredasdorp, Ou Werf has been lovingly restored with light tones, quality finishes and plenty of farm character, making it a great option for a jaded family in sore need of a dose of the rural.
The cottage sits within a lovely open setting on the farm Mierkraal, which in turn lies on the rim of the Soetmuis Mountains. With views of dam and mountain spilling out from just about every angle (even the bathroom), those city blues will fade away in no time.
Ou Werf is off-grid - you'll be powered along by the sun and gas power.
The cottage has two bedrooms, a double and a twin, both ensuite. The bathrooms are decked with towels and your bed in percale linen. There’s an additional sleeper couch in the living room.
Open-plan, the kitchen is fully equipped. A six-seater dining table takes up poll position, with an indoor fireplace close by to keep things snug.
The lounge is spacious and opens out via double doors to the stoep, where you'll find your braai.
The farm sports a liquorice assortment of things to do, from walks and hikes, to fishing and swimming in the dam. Horse riding is even possible with advance arrangement. Days trips to nearby Elim, Struisbaai, Arniston and De Hoop Nature Reserve are also on the cards, given enough time.
Pet-friendly, laid-back, lovely Overberg setting, comfortable, Ou Werf has all the ingredients.
