Budget Getaways Review
There’s no doubt that you’ll be “wowed” by the setting of this little farm cottage. The Langeberg Mountains cut the horizon, the vineyards and fynbos add to the rural appeal and then there’s the wooden deck, the stone hot tub and the cottage itself to add to the mix…needless to say, the result is a getaway that’ll knock your socks off.
Before we dabble in the details, let’s look a little closer at the setting. Running Stream Wines is a working wine farm butting up against the nearby mountain slopes. It’s an ideal place to enjoy a decent dollop of tranquillity with some great outdoor options such as bike rides, hikes and general farm strolls.
Now for the cottage itself. Here you’ve got a modern, clapperboard abode with plenty of space and large sliding doors leading out from the living room and bedroom onto a balustraded wooden deck. This outdoor area and the large glass doors take full advantage of those mountain vistas. The bedroom has a king bed and there’s a single sleeper couch in the living room, meaning the cottage is ideally suited for couples - or if the babysitters fell through, then you can bring junior along if you must. The living room is open plan to an equipped kitchen and there’s a bathroom with a shower. Towels and linen are included, and WiFi is on tap to keep you in touch with the real world.
If you’re not sunning yourself or prepping the braai out on the deck, then you’ll most likely be putting your feet up in the stone hot tub down on the cottage lawn (either option sounds like a good place to be). If it's the outdoors you seek, then head off for a farm stroll or explore the surrounding roads on your bike. Montagu itself also has a platter of activities you can head off to enjoy, such as farmers’s markets, olive and cheese tasting, horse riding trails and a variety of restaurants and coffee shops. Closer to home, enquire about Running Streams own boutique wines which can be sampled on the farm.
To sum up, this contemporary cottage and the surroundings, plus the short distance from the Mother city make a great recipe for the perfect weekend escape - just the two of you.
