Budget Getaways Review
This fairly new establishment located just off Cape Town's happening Kloof Street is a a good-value option with an accompanying package of convenient bells and whistles.
5 Camp Street features both a guesthouse (which can be taken as a self-catering whole) and five luxurious self-catering apartments, which come in one- and two-bedroom options, all of them ensuite and with space for a child in the lounge.
The units are tastefully furnished in a nice mix of the antique and modern - judging by the pics the decor is attractive and the furnishings high quality.
Fully equipped kitchens, flatscreen TV's with DSTV, private barbie areas and all linen and towels are standard issue, as is a communal pool, DSTV, free Wi-Fi internet access, and secure parking for the hired car from Avis.
Prices start at R350pp for the self-catering units, and a little higher for a comfy bed in the guesthouse - quite reasonable for a spot in the heart of the city. With a total headcount of 20, booking the entire place for a family occasion or birthday bash in the Mother of all cities is not out of the question.
5 Camp Street's convenient location will be a big drawcard if you like being close to the action. The city centre and Long Street is a mere five minutes away (downhill all the way); a platter of 20+ restaurants and pubs is just a short stroll away and takes care of the evening meal, the cable car; Table Mountain and Lion's Head provide a constant protective backdrop, while Camps Bay and Clifton Beach are just over the hill.
We like the look of this, and can't wait to hear more feedback.
"We really enjoyed our stay at 5 Camp Street; everything is so central and within walking distance to the guesthouse. The staff were both friendly and professional and units were clean and well maintained. Will definitely recommend to friends and family."

"Very well located within Cape Town's trendy area (Kloof Street). With easy access to beaches, inner city, Table Mountain, highways, the list goes on... We were two families that stayed very comfortably in the house over Dec 2010. With a domestic service every morning, which was a definite win. The outside braai area was always sheltered (even with the black south-easter blowing) and the dining room even facilitated a large and rowdy Christmas dinner. I see that a pool has since been put in - and can only make this house more appealing!"
