Antbear Lodge is about our dream of a sustainable lifestyle living in the rural countryside overlooking the Drakensberg Mountains. We are an accommodation provider and offer an authentic South African holiday experience which amounts to way more than just spectacular accommodation and great food. Its about our passion for hospitality. Our guests are the reason we are so excited to get out of bed in the mornings. Antbear Lodge is a small owner run establishment with 15 separate accommodation units. Either ensuite double rooms that are smartly appointed with Jacuzzi spa baths and fireplaces and king size beds or luxury suites which additionally include its own private lounge. But its our luxury cave that hits the ball right out of the park. This is a luxury accommodation unit built under a rock overlooking a gorge. Glass doors open onto a wooden deck with hammock chairs and an uninterrupted view of the Drakensberg Mountains. We also offer a private dining experience where we setup a table on the deck of the cave and you dine by candle light under the stars. And guys, if you cant get her to say yes in this romantic setting then she just is not going to say it. Alternatively you could choose to dine together with us as your hosts. This creates a great atmosphere and gives you the opportunity to find out what to do the next day. We cook everything from scratch and have our own organic vegetable garden. We put a South African spin on all the food we prepare and we cater for all dietary requirements with pleasure. We have our own chickens for eggs, cows for milk, bake our own bread and even make our own cheese. Yes Antbear Lodge is indeed a special place Every single piece of furniture, window fittings, doors finishing’s all made on the premises. Our wood working vision is to up cycle what other people consider scrap and we create incredible artworks that are seriously big and bold. We are talking eccentric wooden hinges and mechanisms, wood sculptures, light fittings, tables, chairs headboards cupboards and more. Huge stain glass windows and a huge window in the shape of a baobab tree. And a 7 meter tall mosaic from broken tiles and mirrors in the lodge. The woodwork and art alone is reason enough to visit our lodge. We also offer horse trails that are ideally suited for beginners and use the softer horse whispering techniques to train our horses and go for gentle outrides on the farm. Andrew has a pilot's license and a microlight at the lodge and if the weather is fine he loves to take guests with him. To fly along the Drakensberg Escarpment or to glide with vultures is just one of those experiences just never forgotten. We also arrange for hot air balloon flights right from our lodge. The Drakensberg region just offers so very much. The main attraction is the Drakensberg Mountains with their dramatic views, waterfalls and walking trails. But whatever you do don’t miss the bushman rock art. The rock art at Game pass shelter is a spiritually moving experience. Oh yes and the vulture viewing is amongst the best in the world. Of course there is also the Midlands Meander with arts and crafts, the Mandela capture site and the many quaint little places to stop and eat. We bring all of this together by proving maps, information and advice so that you can make the best of your time here.
