Budget Getaways Review

Brambleberry Farm is a newish addition on the Budget Getaway map - a relaxed farm getaway just 10km outside Riebeek-Kasteel and it's sleepy sibling Riebeek West.

Jo and Bruce are the gracious hosts at Bramblerry and are passionate about sharing their "bit of paradise" with couples looking to trade the stress of city life for a weekend of birdsong, stunning sunsets and fresh mountain air.

In the main house you'll find Rob's Room and Rooster Room, each spacious and comfy with their own private bathrooms and shared use of the lounge and kitchen. Downstairs from the main house, Duck Pond End an Zimbini Room make up the balance. Each of these rooms has a double bed (Zimbini has an extra single bed) and lots of charm. They also have a private lounge and share a terrace.

If you plan on spending some time outside (which we can highly recommend) you'll be glad to know that there is a balcony, a tented back stoep, a jetty over the duck pond and a braai area - all come standard with soothing views and are best enjoyed with a glass of wine.

Popping into the village for breakfast or lunch, quaffing wine at the surrounding estates, mountain biking, morning and evening strolls, a braai at the stream, swimming in the dam, they'll all be part of your weekend stay.

Best you leave your troubles in your old kit bag beneath the bed, pack your paperback and your partner and make your way to Brambleberry Farm.

Guest Reviews

"What a fantastic getaway, and I have been to many! Friendly hospitable hosts, a panoramic setting and comfortable, affordable accommodation make this a little piece of heaven. Our dogs also had a fabulous weekend exploring the wide open spaces. and sulked all the way home... Thanks Bruce and Jo - we will be back, again and again!"

"The cottage could have been cleaner and, as mentioned in a previous review, the cottage is not on a dam as shown on the photographs. Both dams near the cottages belong to neighboring farms and cannot be accessed. We really enjoyed our long weekend and love the area. Loved feeding Tony the pony."

"The dam is not in front of the cottage (as the photo suggests) but is actually the neighbours dam (and not accessible). Other than that the place is very new and still needs some character."

"Great place to retreat for the weekend, perfect for couples, families or friends - we went in a couple with friends and their two year old. The spare room could have used a bit of a sweep and a wipe and the dishes needed to be re-washed but otherwise it was great - good location, nice and peacful. We'll go back."

"An awesome out of the way place with fantastic views. Clean and comfortable, a great place to recharge one's batteries. Hosts Bruce and Jo are friendly, accommodating and will ensure that you have a pleasant stay. As much as I enjoyed the peace and quiet, it is but a short scenic drive to some great wineries and restaurants in Riebeek West. I'll definitely be back for another visit."

"Not advisable to stay here before the marathon as all the beds were like sleeping on concrete. There was no firewood so we couldn't make a fire unless we drove into the nearby village to buy some but when one arrives late on a Friday this is not always ideal. We also felt R250pp was rather steep for what was provided, although the scenery was lovely."

"We're sorry to hear that Brian felt the beds were too hard and that he never got his money's worth, However we've only had compliments in the past. We sell dry firewood @ R30 per bag; we're sorry we never made that clear to him. When we knew they were arriving after dark we left the lights on so they could find their way. We acknowledge the constructive criticism and realise that not everybody enjoys the same things. The price is based on return on investment and after investigation of the average for the area."

"Great break away from the city. Enjoyed it very much and would recommend to friends and family!"

"It was a great weekend. Thanx Jo and Bruce for your hospitality and concern for our comfort!"

"I would like to express what a wonderful weekend we had at Brambleberry Farm. Although the weather was cold and rainy, we could walk a small part up the mountain, which had AWESOME views, and spent a lovely time in front of the fire in the cottage. The little town sells wonderful wines, the cottage was nice and warm. We loved all the little animals and my kids enjoyed seeing the cows being milked. To Bruce and Jo, thank you for making us feel welcome. You have a stunning place!"

"Great value for money. The perfect quick weekend getaway from Cape Town. We found the hosts Bruce and Jo most hospitable."

"Had a relaxing and great weekend away!"

"I will definitely visit again and this time I will bring the children with. There are so many things to do. Take a hike into the mountain and enjoy nature!"
