Budget Getaways Review
Old Queen E and her entourage of corgis wouldn't scoff at this Breede River beauty. Especially not after the gushing feedback coming from the commoners who've already graced its halls. “We had such fun staying in the gorgeous, comfortable house.” “Highly recommend a visit, especially with a groups of friends.” “Well fitted out, well decorated with a welcoming and comfortable feel, spotlessly clean, light and spacious.”
Spanning the Breede River banks and 5km downstream of Malgas, this charming double-story has all the makings of a vogue family holiday - creamy dollops of style, river views from every angle, gorgeous sunsets washed down with bakkie-loads of G&T cut with a thin slice of lime.
Looking at the lay of the land, there’s a lot packed in here: Six double bedrooms on ground level (all of them ensuite), each lovingly decorated in vibrant tones; a large open-plan kitchen (with scullery to hide the aftermath) linked to a dining room and separate entertainment area that spill open onto a lawned garden, swimming pool and the river (with private jetty).
The entertainment area is decked with a pool table, table tennis, large flatscreen with DSTV and DVD player, Wifi, and an indoor braai. In other words, this is a weather-proof getaway of note.
There's more… Head up the stairs and you'll find a second lounge area, a study, and a bar. Once again, these spaces flow effortlessly to a deck with views over the garden and river.
And then, to round off that boozy lunch, two sunrooms fitted with double beds.
Fishing, swimming, biking, hiking, bird-watching, braaing, expeditions to the general dealer, scuttling between the entertainment area and sunrooms, you won't have a moment to spare.
We think you get the picture. This is a group getaway fit for a, err, queen.
Additional Info
- There's a private jetty and private swimming pool for your use
- Firewood available to purchase
- There are two pubs on the river ( Boat House & Bush Pub) open on weekends & holidays, and pub/restaurant (Grunters) open everyday 5km from River Queen
"We absolutely loved staying at the Breede River Queen. It is a fantastic place for a group weekend away. There are so many different spaces in the house to just relax and enjoy the view. My only complaint was that the weekend was too short! Highly recommended."

"This was the best stay we have ever had of all the places we have been to, which is a lot. Worth every penny! Feels exactly like a large family home away from home. Even the dogs loved every second!"

"If I had to design a holiday house myself taking input from all my best and closest friends, I couldn't come up with anything better than the Breede River Queen. The rooms are all funkily and individually designed with BRILLIANT bathrooms, the social spaces are many and varied, and the quiet nooks and corners for getting away from the hubbub and losing yourself in a book are all over the place. The garden? Just incredible. Cape Weavers getting amongst the huge flowering aloes, dozens of different succulent and fynbos varieties and in general just a riot of greenery and colour. Because it was July we couldn't take full advantaged of the stunning pool area, but that didn't matter a bit....instead we gathered round the 3 fireplaces (one huge outside braai in a lapa with a 10-seater table, plus one inside in the TV area and one upstairs at the bar and lounge) and drank rooiwyn to keep the cold at bay. The house easily handled all 14 of us without ever feeling crowded. You'd have a couple of people playing pool downstairs, a few more fishing down at the jetty, a few more upstairs on the deck sipping gins and watching the river, and several more playing Settlers of Cataan at the big circular card table off the bar and lounge area. And that would still leave the TV area, the pool area, the lapa/braai, the rest of the garden and the kitchen totally empty. Truly magnificent. Thank you."

"I'm hesitating to recommend this place because I don't want to share it too far and wide! An amazing holiday rental for groups, especially with WiFi-hooked kids. There is something for everyone to enjoy (besides WiFi to keep us all connected to responsibilities at home and to keep kids occupied at down times), boardgames, a pool table, a great, well equipped kitchen for cooking, plenty of private spaces, comfortable beds, great fireplaces, lots of wood, a gorgeous outdoor eating space, a beautiful pool area, loads of creative touches, and great hosts. Have I mentioned a great location at the river in the beautiful Malgas? Please... don't go! It might not be available for my group next time!"

"This is the fourth time we have used this accommodation. Each time we have visited with different people and all our guests have fallen in love with the setting and with the house. The hospitality of the owners of the house is second to none. We hope to go back yet again in April. Highly recommend a visit, especially groups of friends."
