Budget Getaways Review
Let’s dive right into the guest book on this one: “Rural luxury.” “This is an absolutely beautiful place to be.” “Gorgeous luxury decor.” “The accommodation is superb, the scenery beautiful.” You get the picture.
Originally a wine cellar built back in 1905, De Wilge is a getaway with understated class.
Beautifully restored by hosts Amanda and Martin, it features two luxury apartments gazing over a pretty picture of landscaped garden with swimming pool, and distant Langeberg mountains. All accommodation options at De Wilge combine modern finishes with antique furnishings.
Looking at the three luxury self-catering units, namely Tango, Lemon and Lime. Each unit sleeps four and has two bedrooms, two units have king beds, while Lime has a queen bed. The second bedroom in each has twin beds. The attention to detail and mod-con/home comfort list is impressive: DSTV, air-con throughout, WiFi, ensuite bedrooms with four-poster beds, percale linen and soft bath towels, manicured garden, crystal clear pool, and even a hot tub jacuzzi on the verandah of Tango, also known as the honeymoon suite.
The living area in each is light and spacious (with fireplace). The kitchen is open-plan and equipped. The main bedroom and living area spill onto the roomy patio.
Alternatively, there are two en-suite rooms in the Manor House would be a perfect stay-over spot for weary travellers. Coffee making facilities are available in each room.
While there isn't much reason to stray beyond the pool, you do have options: farm strolls, leisurely cruises on your mountain bike, wine farms, good restaurants within easy reach, 4x4 routes.
An elegant break in a pretty corner of the Cape.
"Thank you Amanda for a very beautiful, memorable stay at the Tango Honeymoon suite. The setting was absolutely gorgeous, pristine and comfortable in every way. The view of the mountains and naartjie orchids are really spectacular. And sitting in the wood fired hot tub under the stars created the ultimate experience. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place to others. "

"What a fantastic place for a stayover. It ticks all the boxes for a romantic getaway and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only downside is perhaps that there is nowhere really to go for a proper walk on the property or nearby."

"A perfect setting for a quiet getaway from the city, in a great location with plenty to do in the area or just relaxing on the veranda admiring the view."

"What a perfect break away - so relaxing and peaceful! Our unit was super comfortable and we loved the small attention to detail. The views are impeccable! Waking up to the gorgeous mountains and orchids was like waking up to a painting! We loved the hot tub, keeping warm by the fire and just lying in bed and staring out at the view. We are really excited to come back very soon."

"Hubby and I wanted a romantic weekend away with scenery and that is exactly what we received. On arrival we were met with exuberance. Our accommodation was elegant, romantic and rustic - in a nutshell, impressive. The high ceilings, the chandeliers, the tone of the room; everything was worth 5 stars. I would recommend De Wilge to anyone. The owner also supplied us with a map and possible attractions and we were not disappointed."
