Budget Getaways Review
Gelukkie’s page on Trip Advisor takes quite a while to load. That's because of the never-ending list of gloating guest comments. “Perfect, perfect, perfect!” “Heaven on earth.” “Love at first sight!”. The feedback runs long and hard.
If you need more convincing, here's a quick rundown of what you'll find here.
Gelukkie consists of two beautiful self-catering cottages, nestled in a tranquil garden setting on a smallholding just outside Paternoster (1km). The mix of rustic country charm, quirky and creative vibe, and elegance, is near pitch-perfect.
Klein Gelukkie and Nog ’n Gelukkie are set suitably apart, but within easy reach of a central function room and communal garden. Sleeping two apiece, they are perfectly suited to couples.
Klein Gelukkie offers a shared garden and a smaller private garden, with braai facilities on the far side of the cottage. Nog ’n Gelukkie is the more private of the two - tucked away at the far end of the property, with its own enclosed garden, braai area and snoozy day bed.
Common to both units are gorgeous interiors, King beds decked in percale linen, ensuite bathrooms with showers, fully equipped kitchens and dining areas, cozy fireplaces and lovely outdoor living spaces.
Paternoster and its attractions - restaurants, beach and local culture - is a doddle up the road. Bringing your bike along would be a fine idea.
Lovely indigenous setting, top-drawer accommodation, a combo of farmy and village, to quote another happy patron:“What a gelukkie to find Gelukkie!”
"My husband and I discovered Gelukkie about six years ago and visit at least once a year. Every single visit is as good as the next. The hosts, Ruth, Cindy and Andrew have not only created a haven for weary souls, but have the knack of making guests feel part of the family. We have had the good fortune of being able to make two movie nights, shop at the Christmas market and savored Ruth's home made meringues. It would be easy for Ruth, Cindy and Andrew to let standards slide since we clearly are fans of this little slice of paradise, but there has never been even one incident in which we have felt anything other than cherished guests. Many people are capable of decorating and equipping a guest house, but it takes a special talent to combine creative ingenuity with flawless people skills. If you are looking for city chic then Gelukkie will not be the place for you. Both cottages, Klein Gelukkie and Nog 'n Gelukkie, have been built with the environment in mind - the gardens are completely indigenous. One can clearly see that its hosts have used local materials, and Andrew is a skilled carpenter, with beautiful pieces lovingly crafted and generously placed in the cottages. Dodge, Amy and Bob are canine hosts, who form part of the welcoming committee. I think I'd better stop now! Suffice to say, we will continue to visit Gelukkie for as long as we are able. It's our home away from home and we can't wait for our next visit!"
