A trip to the Karoo Heartland will be made that much more special with a stay-over at Letskraal Farm. Lying a a quick 40-minute drive from Graaff-Reinet, the farm offers a offers a beautifully restored farmhouse that's more than 200 years old.
With its wooden floors, solid stable doors, antique touches and simple furnishings, you will feel as though you've stepped into a bygone time. The fact that there is no electricity only adds to the historic ambiance.
On the topic, instead of Eskom you'll find a gas stove and gas fridge in the kitchen, as well as a nice braai area outside for off-the-braai-grid living. Packing an extra torch or two wouldn't go amiss - though you can leave the cellphone charger at home, as there's no reception. Yipee!
There are three bedrooms, all comfortably furnished, and a single divan in the lounge - that's total space for eight guests, excluding Fido, who is also welcome.
The bedrooms share two bathrooms, which are situated outside – might be a long walk to freedom in winter, but one well worth undertaking.
Letskraal is a nature lovers paradise, with stargazing, sweeping mountain views and lungfuls of Groot Karoo air.
Well worth a visit, especially for bigger groups.
