If you’re looking for summer fun in the sun come to Otters’ Haunt. We are surrounded by water, forests and mountains in the beautiful Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site. Ideal for family get-togethers and homely holidays, we are near Parys, only 1hr 15min from Johannesburg, on tar all the way. If you’re just arriving or leaving from Johannesburg airport, our place is a convenient port of call. Rustic accommodations include a large guest house which is off the eskom grid, bush camp on Eskom power and chalets on Eskom power, all equipped for self-catering.
Otters Den House - Rooms are simply furnished. The lounge has a log fireplace, with a snooker table on the porch. A large kitchen and braai area overlooking the river. Solar power. Cooking and geysers on gas. Bring battery powered lights for late nights after 10pm.
Guineafowl Cottage - The Guinea Fowl cottage is a delightful self-contained chalet overlooking the lawns down to the river. Smart TV & Free Wi-Fi. Sofa Bed is available. Winter nights heater and electric blanket. Bring battery powered lights for late nights after 10pm.
Porcupine Room - The Porcupine room is a neat, comfy, self-contained annex to the . guest house. River view, en-suite bathroom, one double and one single bed, kitchenette on the veranda. On solar power. Bring battery power lights for late nights. Gas cooking and heater.
Cormorant Cabin - The Cormorant Cabin is perched on a koppie with braai area, attached bathroom and shower. Kitchennette on semi-enclosed veranda. Heaters. Two bedrooms, one with double bed, the other two single beds.
Bush Cabins - 3 A frame cabins are rented for families and groups. Shower and toilet is separate (not ensuite). Self catering lapa with blinds and fireplace. Heater in the cabins.
Area Information
The Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site lies at the centre of the world's oldest and largest meteorite impact site. Join a tour from Otters' Haunt with popular science writer Prof Graeme Addison or keen environmentalist Karen Addison, registered tour guides. We do a map briefing, video and impact demo, and go to view sites of scientific and cultural interest. Also, there is a battlefields tour and a township tour. Graeme and Karen are great companions as you drive, walk, or mountain bike the trails. Or paddle on the Vaal, River of the Crater!
