Budget Getaways Review
Beautifully positioned amidst the rolling hills of the Hemel en Aarde Valley, Rustic Hideaways not only lies within easy reach of Hermanus, but is also within easy strike of a platter of quality wine estates, good mountain bike trails and some gobsmacking scenery.
The four accommodation options are dotted a fair distance apart, around a series of farm dams.
The Farmhouse and Drie Jongens are the two larger units, while The Dairy House and Shiraz Cottage are more compact cottage-style abodes. All are tastefully decorated, with open timber beams, fireplaces and a classic farmstyle vibe.
Looking at each in detail, The Farmhouse has a total four double bedrooms (one ensuite) and three bathrooms. The living area and kitchen are open-plan and spacious, with a large fireplace. Up in the loft, you’ve got two extra double beds and an entertainment area with DSTV. The Farmhouse has its own swimming pool and full length patio.
Drie Jongens is the biggest of the bunch. Well suited to a family, the house packs four bedrooms (two kings, one with three single beds, and a family room with a king and twin beds) and four bathrooms; three of the bedrooms are ensuite. Again, the house is spacious and modern and sports a swimming pool and rolling lawns and a jacuzzi!
The Dairy House comes with compact cottage feel and three upstairs bedrooms - two doubles and a twin. The living area is flowy and open-plan to an equipped farm kitchen, and opens out via double doors to a patio and braai area. There is no TV, but with five hectares of fields and forests around the cottage, who needs the distraction?
Shiraz Cottage is a cozy six sleeper with views over the mountains and farm dam. The loft room has a king bed (can be converted to twin beds) and ensuite bathroom, while down on ground level you have another double room with a separate bathroom (bath, shower and loo). The recently added "stoep room" has a double bed and ensuite bathroom, and can only be accessed from its own entrance. The lounge, with fireplace and dining area is open plan to a fully equipped kitchen. Throw open the double doors and you've got a spacious undercover patio. Shiraz comes with it's own splash pool and open-air hot shower.
Each abode comes with outdoor braai and entertainment areas, private parking, all linen and towels and wifi. (a fee is charged for wifi)
With oodles of style, lots to do nearby, a setting second to none, a friendly host, 'Rustic' is a term that should be taken with a tiny pinch of salt. As far as we’re concerned, this one's a gem.

"Everything was phenomenal and great about our stay at De Werf Country Estate! Great Service! Beautiful scenery! Just an overall wonderful experience."

"The house and decor is immaculate, catering for all your needs in an incredible setting with views of the beautiful Hemel n Aarde Valley Cape fold mountains. Our kids loved playing in the pool and on the lawn in front of the balcony and going on adventures to the playground. There is so much to do in the area and we were really spoilt for choice. We would have loved to be able to stay longer than the weekend. We had a fantastic stay."

"Our family spent a happy weekend at Drie Jongens, one of several farm-houses on the farm. The host, Jannie, was so friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. It rained most of the weekend but the house was warm with a good fireplace. The setting is beautiful, the accommodation great and there are many walks and cycles in the area. This is a great valley with good restaurants and wine-tasting opportunities. We will definitely visit again."

"We stayed the weekend at The Dairy on the De Werf Country Estate property and it was absolutely amazing. The setting of the cottage a few metres away from the dams, the birdlife, the walks, the country surrounds and of course, the lovely cottage. It is also excellently located to visit all the wine estates, restaurants and attractions in the Hemel-and-Aarde Valley. It was also so welcoming and dog-friendly - my dog absolutely loved cooling off in the dams and exploring the estate. Will definitely be back."
