Budget Getaways Review
Once past the khaki-clad officials and through the boom, Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is your only accommodation option on this side of the Tsitsikamma National Park. Fortunately, there's a wide range of beds available, including a superb caravan park located right on the shore-break and chockablock with tents and caravans in high season. Apart from pitching a tent, there are 81 timber cabins and chalets, many with sea views and varying in standard from basic to semi-luxury. Fifty-five of the units are fully equipped and serviced daily. The options include: Forest Huts (sleep 2) with communal ablutions and cooking facilities; self-catering Forest Cabins (sleep 4); open-plan self-catering Chalets (sleep 2); self-catering Family Chalets (sleep 5-7); semi-detached "hotel-style" Oceanettes (sleep 3-4) that are on the oceanfront and self-catering; similarly styled Cottages (sleep 3) and Family Cottages (sleep 4); as well as several Honeymoon Cottages. All way too confusing for our pea-size brains! Bear in mind that the only place to eat out is the rest camp restaurant, which serves breakfast and a la carte meals. The food's fine, but not fine enough to make a habit of. Also keep in mind that the accommodation is heavily subscribed in December so you may like to plan your stay around this period.
"I would highly recommend a visit. and a stay over at this rest camp. We are going back next year. The place is beautiful and wild. The rest camp lived up to it's name while we were there. A storm of note came thru and the sea was wild with huge waves. We managed to get an exceptional sunset on the one evening. We did not camp this time but stayed in the Forest Hut. The hut's are cute and well maintained with self-catering for two. Next time I will rather stay in a Forest Cabin to have a bit more space. I found the accommodation prices a bit expensive (a Wild Card would have been helpful), especially for only two people. But still worth it as it is very quiet and completely off the beaten track. We had dinner at the restuarant - you have to book - our meal was OK, the waitron service needs a bit of attention. Unfortunately I had to send my fish back as it was cold. Next time I will rather prepare my own food. The forest huts have access to a communal fridge /deep freeze - our stuff was safe so I will rather bring more food in with me next time. Worth the visit, lovely venue!"

"Highly, highly recommended. If you prefer roughing it in the wild, you might find the facilities almost too good, but we loved it. The setting was sensational, the ablutions were sparkling and amazingly convenient and there was even a decent restaurant, gift shop and supply store. I agree with the previous comment that it's vital to book a site with a view, as the front row of sites basks in a heavenly ocean view while the back row is between the front row and the road. Even so, the back sites are ok as the whole area is pretty quiet and there's a great view of the mountain which is on the other side of the road. Nestled between the road and the mountain are the cottages, which looked wonderful. This is definitely an expensive site though, so be warned. We joined friends on a site they'd already paid for, but still paid almost R100 per day for the two of us to share with them. And that's with a Wild Card discount!"

"This place was gorgeous! We stayed on a campsite which was right on the sea( as they all are!) . It was a 10-second walk to the ablutions and a great swimming pool. Make sure you get a campsite with a view though otherwise you can be stuck behind caravans as we were from time to time. The views were as stunning as the pictures on this site look and the walk to the Suspension Bridge was also great. A word of warning - on the other side of the bridge there is a sign to "lookout Point" which sounds tempting. What it doesn't tell you is that this point is perhaps a kilometre further along a path, which consists basically of vertical steps up the side of a rather steep mountain. The views from the top are stunning, but not worth the effort in my opinion. Camping here is a bit pricey. We paid R170 per night which is a lot if you are only two people but fine for a big group. The place is quite far from civilisation which is nice. There is a shop and restaurant on site. The shop is reasonably priced- we didn't try the restaurant. Just make sure you book. The place was fully booked out the weekend that we went. Two thumbs up for me! You wont regret it!"

"This is the perfect getaway for the stressed and depressed. Being this close to nature is very relaxing. There is something for everyone."
