Pringle Bay Snapshot

This sleepy coastal hamlet is tucked away below the impressive crags of Hangklip, and is almost entirely surrounded by the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. Situated on that gorgeous stretch of winding road between Gordon's Bay and Kleinmond, Pringle Bay has coastal fynbos, a beach (often pummeled by the Cape Doctor), a lagoon that the kids will love, and quiet streets lined with DIY holiday homes and an eatery or two. Only 60km from Cape Town, Pringle ticks a useful weekend box when it comes to easy escapes from the city.

Things To Do

  • The nearby Harold Porter Botanical Gardens makes for a pleasant outing, offering walking trails and a tea garden.

  • Heading to Betty's Bay, the Stony Point penguin colony is a sure-fire winner with children and should keep their pleas for ice cream at bay for an hour or so.

  • Considered by some as the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the Kogelberg Nature Reserve extends from Pringle Bay to Kleinmond. It incorporates both coastline and mountain terrain and has a number of trails and accommodation.

  • The Kleinmond Coastal Reserve presses deep into the mountains. The Palmiet River and lagoon intersects the heart of the reserve and is a good site for swimming and canoeing. The area tourism office is your contact for more info.

  • All the coastal villages along this stretch of rocky coastline have beaches – some longer and some safer than others.

  • Try out some of the restuarants, from the Hangklip Hotel, an old favourite to the viby Perigators for pub and pizza. Hook, Line and Sinker serve great fish dishes.
