Budget Getaways Review
Ever wondered what it must be like to trade in your Mowbray bolthole for the life of the glitzy, gorgeous and famous on the upper slopes of Signal Hill?
Kicking back with a Pina Colada at sunset, ambling down to the Promenade for a few lengths in the best pool in the universe… Climbing Lion's Head for a 360 view… Watching the flickering lights of Sea Point… Listening to the hum of life lived in the fast lane… That type of thing.
Well, crack open that bottle of Cold Duck you've been saving and get the peri-peri prawns on the braai - Sea Point sundowners here we come.
21 on Deane is about slick, open-plan living slap-bang in the heart of Sea Point. Whether it's hitting the beach (750m) or the V&A (2km) or the mountain (100m) behind the house, it's all a mere frisbee throw from your front door.
Sleeping six total, the main ensuite bedroom sports a travertine-clad bathroom, heated towel rail and large oval bath - just what the doc ordered after a hard day on Clifton.
A second double room with its own bathroom and shower zips open to a shared courtyard, while a third bedroom can be found upstairs, also with own bathroom.
The spacious, open-plan living area spills out onto a deck via large sliding doors - unfortunately, no ocean views. Head back inside, crank up the Cafe del Mar and prepare a little al fresco number - the kitchen is a modern, fully equipped space with granite counter tops, Bosch cooker, microwave and fridge freezer, as well as DSTV.
At R2100 a night for the house (excl. optional B&B), 21 on Deane barely scrapes into our upper price limit of R350pp. However, factor in the top-notch specs, the convenience, it appears to be a good option for those seeking a base in the heart of Cape Town vibe that's simultaneously close to nature.
