Budget Getaways Review
Trawling the big bad Net for Blomerus Guest Farm reviews reveals a whole lot of super content travellers, who have nothing but high praise for the place. To summarise our research..
1. It’s big: “What a lovely house - a mansion I would say even!”
2. Lekker setting: “Blomerus is spacious, tranquil, well appointed and comfortable.”
3. Most importantly, it’s great value for moola: “This is an awesome place, well worth it!”
Let's now check out the lay of the land. The house is relaxed, stylishly furnished, easy to navigate, and sits in a lovely treed garden that leads down to a farm dam (20m away). All this on a sprawling farm about 10km from Gansbaai.
Sleeping a whopping 10 people, this is an ideal getaway for an extended family occasion or a few families sharing, with a grand total of five bedrooms (three kings, two twins). Four of these have ensuite bathrooms, and there's a fifth shared bathroom if needed. All the bedrooms are decked out in percale linen and quality bath towels.
The main living and dining area - with open hearth - is spacious and opens to a wide covered patio. From the patio it's onto the rolling green lawns and the dam.
The kitchen is well equipped and has all the gadgets you’ll ever want. There is a separate smaller lounge with another open fireplace.
Like we said, mod-cons in no short supply, with free WiFi, full DSTV and Smart TV offerings on tap. Wow!
Keeping busy (if you really have to) is a doddle. On the farm you have horses for the kids to feed, pat and pet, the farm dam for summer and winter plunges, and plenty of nooks and crannies to disappear into.
Off the property, the Platbos Forest Reverse and its various trails are directly next door, as is the start of the Klipspringer MTB route, and some quad biking trails. Wine farms, Flower Valley for fynbos trails and Gansbaai itself are all a short drive up the road.
Great value, well-appointed, heaps of space, generous touches galore, high attention to detail, group budget getaways don't get much posher than this.
"We recently had a family get-together here. The house is very comfortable and was big enough for 10 people. It was clean and comfortable with a lovely large green lawn for the kids to play on. Our hostess was friendly and on the ball. It was all in all a very pleasant stay. There is a forest on its doorstep which was a real pleasure to walk in. Works on a honesty box system and they suggest R50 per person, which is a bit much if you are a family of 10 people, but it is a lovely, easy and mellow walk. My only complaint was that they were busy building so on approach of the house we were initially concerned as it looked terrible and forewarning would have been nice. Three of the rooms have a door leading to inner courtyard but no key was to be found so there was limited airflow through the rooms."

"We expected tranquillity, and boy, did we get that, and so much more! Sally is a lovely host, making us feel welcome from the minute we arrived. The house has lovely old-school farmhouse charm, with all the modern amenities such as WiFi and a full DSTV bouquet. Most importantly, it is clean and well taken care of. The humongous grass lawns were ideal for our kids to run free, and for the adults to take in the beauty of the surroundings while sipping on our morning coffee."

"We had an Indian summer in the cold Cape Town winter and we couldn't be happier celebrating our couples retreat at this spectacularly placed venue. It had exactly the amount of en suite rooms we needed, a huge kitchen where we could cook and bake and kuiered around the table. two fireplaces inside and two outside - we were spoiled for choice. The kids could paddle on the little dam, there were donkeys to feed and the rooster crowed us awake for an early morning coffee on the stoep. The lush green lawns and the little brook bubbling on the side were but two factors enticing us to spend more time in the countryside, especially the Overberg. Sally, the host, was always just a phone call away should we need anything. There was enough fire wood, ample hot water, crisp linen and towels. Sigh...."
