Budget Getaways Review
With beach pads like this who needs to buy a cattle class air ticket to Bali and its hordes of Australians and other expats? S'truth mate, we have it all right here in Simon's Town.
And we’re not talking damp fishing shack either; Downunder is the real deal. White-washed wooden floors, a mix of light fabrics, antique furnishings, plenty of contemporary touches and glass galore to suck up those awesome False Bay ocean views.
Nestled between sea and the M4 ribbon unfurling towards Cape Point, a garden gate is all that separates you from the beach. And then just down the drag (6km) is Simon's Town harbour and … Downunder's very own moored boat where you can play out your Peter Stuyvesant fantasies. Two kayaks and small dingy provided.
Back at the house, this is ideal for a large family or even two, comfortably sleeping eight across four bedrooms - a pair of twins and two double ensuites. There are an additional two shared bathrooms upstairs.
The living area (with double sleeper couch and DSTV) is open-plan to a modern equipped kitchen and fronted by wide glass sliding doors and those grand vistas - perfect backdrop to that Woolies lobster thermidor, chased by a chilled chardonnay.
Throw open the doors and you're at the terraced garden and within braai tong reach of those sizzling chops.
Parking is secure, plus there's a garage if need be.
Boulder's Beach is a mere five minutes away, the sea is a pebble's throw from the living room, the accommodation is stylish, secure and easy-going, there's your own boat/tanning deck at the harbour...
Flippin' hell, with places like this on our doorstep, you'd be nuts even considering boarding a plane to Downunder.
"We had a fantastic stay at Down Under, two days felt like a week of relaxation. Thanks for the gift and service that was at hand when needed. I loved that things were minimalist, everything you needed and nothing more. Fantastic getaway."

"We had an awesome time at Down Under. The house is very spacious and neat. My nephew and nieces thoroughly enjoyed their time at the house. The view of Cape Point from the house is stunning. Sitting in the lounge watching and listening to the ocean is so relaxing. Also, Thank You Lloyd for being so helpful. We will be back soon."

"It is clearly a well loved home and the owners seem keen for visitors to feel at home which is really appreciated. We all wished it had a pool and perhaps some kind of sheltered area in the front from the wind with a braai spot, and a fireplace inside for winter."

"What a glorious stay, a comfortable and stylish beach house right on the rocks. The sound of the ocean lulling one to sleep every evening. I had my bike and the accommodation being just a 4km ride to the entrance of Cape Point meant I was able to enjoy the majestic view of the False Bay, cycling up the Horn of Africa. The views fed the soul, we even witnessed a pod of dolphins who returned time and time again to the cove, all from the comfort of the lounge. An experience not to be missed. Simons Town was worth an explore, we visited the toy museum and where amazed at the collection, a trip to the scratch patch was also well worth a visit."

"I stayed at Downunder with my family and had an amazing time. The house is perfectly placed for a beach getaway with a difference. The views of Cape Point and the Hottentot Holland mountain range were stunning, and always in view outside and in, due to the fully glazed back wall. The house is very clean, modern and has all the amenities we needed, including a tumble dryer which came in handy on the days it was too risky to hang our clothes outside! The bedrooms are very large and all have showering facilities. We went to the harbour in Simon's Town for lunch which was only a short drive away, and went to the very British pub for a couple of drinks with the locals, who told us a lot more about the long naval history of the town. In short, we had a wonderful stay at Downunder and will certainly be returning!"

"Downunder is a lovely, quiet retreat away from cape town city centre, a whole new world! The house is very spacious, with open plan living which is ideal for the family. We loved the panoramic views of the sea and mountains. The bedrooms are very large and each one had an en-suite or a least a shower pod. This was ideal for a large family like mine, with both older and younger children. We all fell in love with boulders beach. Simons Town is a quaint navy town with quirky cafes and pub. It has a very British feel about it. It is also worth visiting the harbour and having some lunch. It was lovely to have Lloyd around to answer all our questions, which he did with pleasure. Thanks Lloyd! We would definitely recommend this house and come back if the opportunity arose."
