Budget Getaways Review
Okay, you're not on the beach (that's 5km away), but with guest comments like, “A really lovely, great value family stay,” Horizon Holiday Cottages slaps the icing on the useful-to-know family getaway list.
Bang in the heart of Noordhoek with vistas towards the lakes, it’s easy to forget about the big bad smog on the other side of the mountain.
Made up of two cottages set within a large, lawned garden, Guinea Fowl Cottage (sleeps 4) and Captain’s Cottage (sleeps 4-6) are the two main family units.
Guinea Fowl Cottage, named after regular visitors to the garden, sports three rooms with king-size, three-quarter and twin-bed options. A fully equipped, open plan kitchen and living room spill out onto your own covered stoep and grassed braai area. The cottage has a single bathroom with shower - therefore, again, best for families.
The second unit, Captain’s Cottage, is clad in beach-style linen and colour-washed pine - quite fitting for a Noordhoek abode. The cottage has two bedrooms with king-sized and twin beds and a double sleeper couch in the living room, should you need it. As with Guinea Fowl Cottage, there is a single bathroom with shower. A private garden, covered stoep and outside braai area are yours to enjoy while the kids run riot.
If it’s just two of you, with or without bambino in tow, you can go for one of two downstairs Cabana units. Brightly decorated and spacious, these units sport a king-sized bed, ensuite bathroom, kitchen with breakfast bar and private deck with outdoor braai area. If it's seclusion you're after perhaps look elsewhere as your friendly hosts live upstairs.
A sparkling pool, DSTV, a large garden for the kids to run wild in, wireless internet access, excellent all-round security and undercover parking for the Kombi, Horizon ticks many boxes.
With possibly the best sunset in Cape Town and a useful spread of closely-knit accommodation options, whether for gran's birthday skop, a gathering of the cousins from around the country, or just a weekend away with a bunch of friends or family, Horizon comes into it's own.
"Thank you so much for the wonderful weekend we have experienced. You made us feel very welcome and our every need was met, even before we arrived. Dennis and Jo are really nice people. Thank you again for the wonderful reception."

"Great accommodation at an affordable price. We enjoyed having a daily suggested itinerary, with recommendations on what was worth visiting. The establishment was attractive, comfortable and well maintained. The location was very central. What we liked best was the friendly and helpful owners."

"Horizon Cottages - Spacious and comfortable, fully equipped, with private garden, a spectacular view and good security. It provides an enjoyable and relaxing stay. It is located in a country village where conservation is the concern of all. It is definitely a place you would want to go back to, and recharge your batteries from the bustle of the city. The accommodation is very affordable although the standard very high. The location is very central and makes travelling very easy and affordable. Dennis and Jo are 110% committed and fantastic hosts. Horizon Cottages will be a spot that I will recommend to friends and family travelling to Noordhoek, CT. Well done Dennis and Jo!
