Nestled deep in the Berlin Forest only 5km from the center of town, Kaapsehoop Adventures greets you with staggering views across the valley.
Well off the beaten track, the road to this rustic backpacker-style getaway is best tackled by a 4x4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season. (It’s not called Kaapsehoop Adventures for nothing).
There's one building split into five separate rooms with shared ablution facilities. These range from a 10-sleeper dorm with bunk beds, through to four-sleeper and double rooms - one with own fireplace. The rooms all open to a lawned area.
The communal boma/kitchen is well equipped with everything required for a scrumptious cook-up. Alternatively, go simple with a dop 'n chop on the boma fire. For a complete hassle-free stay, breakfast, dinner and picnic baskets can be arranged.
Completely off the grid, you might as well leave your iPad at home. An old fashioned donkey boiler is on hand keep your shower toasty hot.
Activities are all on tap: adventure hikes to the nearby waterfalls, horse riding, archery, mountain biking, bird watching.
A good bet for groups and families, offering a friendly package of down-to-earth accommodation and outdoor pursuits.
"Excellent venue as a base to the region for different activities. We took long walks - routes can be better marked and improved, but actually any route can be attempted. Kitchen well equipped. No need to take anything. We took a lot of unnecessary utensils etc with as we did not realise it was a fully equipped facility. I am sure if one were to request assistance for any activity from Pierre, he would gladly assist."

"Such an amazing venue. Pierre was incredibly helpful in getting us to the venue (no signs and quite a tough road!) so we felt at home right from the start. The remote buildings overlook a breathtaking Valley, and the surrounding forests play host to many wild horses, some of which we were lucky enough to see on our evening walk. The lack of electricity didn't phase us either - it just added to the overall rustic and peaceful feel. A true gem of a venue! "
