Kaapsehoop Snapshot

Well known for its misty mornings and cool climate, Kaapsehoop is a sleepy little ex-mining village situated about 35km from Nelspruit in Mpumulanga.

Sitting on a high plateau with soothing views over the De Kaap Valley, the village is steeped in mining history. The name is said to derive from the discovery of gold here, which triggered great hopes/fantasies of wealth among the valley's residents. Sadly for them, the gold boom didn't last, and the dorp reassumed it's laid-back and forgotten vibe.

With its history, wonderful setting, village charm, great birdlife and a good variety of getaways to suit most needs, Kaapsehoop is a relaxing escape from the Joburg treadmill.

Things To Do

  • If you want to have your hair blown back by a jaw-dropping view of the valley, then the Kaapsehoop Escarpment Walk is a must.

  • For the culture vultures, the Kaapsehoop Histroy Tours offers a range of tours covering a variety of topics on the the rich history of this charming little village.

  • A visit to Battery Creek Falls - a short 10-minute walk from the Kaapsehoop village - is the ideal place to cool off and get a free deep tissue nature massage.
