Budget Getaways Review
Your kids have been nagging for a seaside break, but the new canary-yellow Hummer only gives two kays to the litre - and that’s without the jetski and quad bike on the trailer behind. Gulp! That annual trip to Mozambique with the rest of the Joneses is suddenly looking a little heavy on the pocket…
But hey, what about Langebaan? It’s only 120km from Cape Town, the lagoon outlook is equally as spectacular (okay, the water is a tad coooler) and you can do your own thing while the kids muck about.
Situated in a quiet part of the town, Klein Langebaan has its own garden and plenty of open space. It's also literally a two-minute drive from the turquoise waters of the lagoon.
This new clean abode sleeps up to six, in two double rooms and a third room containing two single beds. There’s a central bathroom with shower (towels not included) and toilet, plus an additional loo in the house to process the morning queue.
For self-catering you’ve got a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, microwave and stove, as well as a spacious living room with a fireplace and TV (SABC only), making this the perfect escape from the West Coast winter nip, or just a great place for the kids to hang out while you enjoy the outside deck and braai area, crayfish sizzling on the grid, chardonnay sloshing around your glass, Hummer dozing in the lock-up garage.
With distant views over the mountains, Saldahna harbour and the lagoon, the general setting is enough to keep you braaing for hours on end.
Langebaan itself has no lack of action, most of it centered around the lagoon and nearby West Coast National Park. Chill out on the beach, put that new kite-surfing kit to test (please try not be blown to the South Pole), take in a sundowner and some fish and chips at one of many restaurants, visit Mykonos, hike, bike and braai.
So, how about it? A two hundred buck petrol investment and you've got yourself a Mozambique-like weekend in the making.
"We absolutely loved the house, its walking distance to the beach, shopping centre and swimming pool for kids. The view from the balcony was stunning, nice view for a braai. Would definitely visit again."

"Even though the surrounding area is beautiful, I found the house dirty and smelly. The kettle was not working, cigarette boxes and empty alcohol bottles standing around. I would have loved at least a open window on arrival for the smell. Not value for money. Scenery beautiful though."

"We had an awesome stay will definitely be back soon."

"What a lovely place. Compliments to Tannie Sannie and her whole family for their hospitality and who were so helpful and made us feel at home."

"While Langebaan is breathtaking our stay at Klein Langebaan was less than favourable. Upon arrival our bathroom was filthy, we found a whole stale bread in bread bin, dirty dishcloths, black dirty pots which we refused to clean, two garages but only access to one meaning one car had to park outside. A total waste of our money."

"Hi Ilga,
I am sorry that you had a bad experience at Klein Langebaan. I will speak to my manager tomorrow and sort all of this out. Although we have 2 garages, we only make one available to guests. I will see to it that we state this more clearly on the website."

"We had a fantastic time."

"The place smells of old smoke and the mattresses should have been replaced a long time ago. Not as quaint as described in the review."

"Hi Nico
I am sorry that you did not have a good experience with us at Klein Langebaan. I will talk to my manager and find out what the situation is. Guests are not allowed to smoke in the house, so maybe it is the smell of the fire place. I will also have a look at the mattresses again.
Andre"
