Budget Getaways Review

A new kid on the block 9km from Ladismith in the Dwarsrivier Valley, Koedoeskloof is a fresh mix of traditional Karoo style, Afro design and funky colour.

It's best described as a chilled guesthouse aimed at young-at-heart locals and tourists, with four nicely decorated rooms, a small restaurant and a campsite for about 24 tents and kitted ablutions for the Cape Union Mart diehards.

With an outlook towards the majestic Towerkop and Swartberg foothills, you have a pick of four well-appointed rooms for couples - all ensuite and all with own signature colour scheme.

Each has it's own entrance and covered voorstoep, where you can take refuge from the blazing Karoo summer, or enjoy a steaming morning cuppa in winter. Fans and heaters come standard.

Although not self-catering the rooms offer the necessary for tea and coffee-making. For something a little more substantial the restaurant is in the adjacent building and serves a hearty farm-style breakfast (included in the deal) and yummy homemade burgers, as well as sundowner deck overlooking the valley - where you will no doubt while away the afternoons with a chilled frostie or three.

And, if you REALLY want to self-cater, feel free to make use of the campsite's kitchen and braai area - the latter features both braai and an Indian fire bowl circled by chairs. Lovely evening spot.

The surrounding area has plenty to offer, from forgotten farm roads to abundant birdlife and a good spread of walking and hiking trails, including a strenuous trek up Towerkop. If you’ve got your mountain bike in tow, there’s plenty of gravel.

What do Koedoekloof's guests think? "Very pleasant, new and clean. Friendly atmosphere - a place you want to go back to." “Here you can spend a fantastic evening and those burgers are pretty special!”

We like.

Guest Reviews

"Lovely venue, lovely service and a very good stay. Lovely hosts and very affordable. Highly recommended for Birders."

"I camped alone at Koedoeskloof, and would love to return with a group of friends or family. Facilities are excellent and its only a few kms outside of Ladismith. The views are stunning. Eugene and Debra are perfect hosts."

"Recently restored farm buildings now tastefully furnished, excellent views of the mountains and vineyards, indoor / outdoor chill zone, brilliant burgers for supper, English breakfast and enthusiastic hosts. We were a party of adventure bikers looking for all the comforts after a hard day in the saddle in the surrounding mountains, Koedoeskloof was the surprise of the day, we'll be back!"

"Fantastic accommodation and value for money."
