Budget Getaways Review
Farm life sure don’t get much better than this…
A fine Overberg farm escape where the whole family or group of mates can chill out in style, Landmeterskop is the real Macoy: 560ha of working sheep farm, 200ha of natural fynbos (no extra charge for this), 22 kays from Stanford.
The farm ticks all the boxes: a happy balance of comfort, privacy, nature and Old Mac farm atmosphere.
The guest feedback is nothing but glowing - some lyrical examples below.
On offer is a swanky farmhouse (The Homestead) with gorgeous valley views, and two newly renovated cottages (called Dormer and Merino) that are set suitably apart, yet close enough (easy walking distance) to be booked by two families.
Poking around the Homestead, 'spacious' is the first thing that jumps to mind. With three bathrooms (two showers and one bath) and six bedrooms (a double, four twins and a single), the house is perfect for two families or a group of friends, sleeping eleven total.
A well-stocked farm kitchen is open-plan to the dining room and its long sociable table. Then you’ve got a bigger lounge with games area and another small lounge with fireplace.
The stoep is a gem - a chillout spot deluxe. Firepit, hammock, sauna room, built-in braai, glorious views, your chances of escape are near zilch.
Moving along to the cottages, these come with two bedrooms (double and twin) and generous attention to aesthetic detail. Screeded floors, leather couches, free-standing Victorian baths, a fireplace, nice decor, quality linen and towels, spacious lounge, open-plan kitchen, they're all there.
The lounge and bedrooms zip open via double doors to a covered veranda with built-in braai, yawing views dotted with cotton-wooled sheep, distant mountain views - what more could a stoep potato ask for?
To do? Chill out on the stoep, braai, mountain bike, walk, picnic, swim in one of two dams, climb the viewpoint for a sundowner, mozey past the farm gate, to Stanford, the Klein River Cheese Factory, The Birkenhead Brewery, Hermanus and its coastal attractions.
Like we said, farm life sure don’t get much better than this.
"Three lady friends stayed in Merino Cottage for three nights. It is incredibly well appointed and decorated. The cottage offered comfort, lovely views, good walks, and the opportunity to experience a working farm - lambs, ducks and geese, goats, alpacas, and more. It is ideal for children who may help with the feeding of the animals at 08:00 am and 05:00 pm. A neighbor provides home-made meals on request. Fresh eggs, rusks and jams can be purchased - just put the money in the honesty box! The staff are super-friendly, and Valerie is a charming hostess."

"What a wonderful place to relax and unwind. Three beautiful cottages with enough space between them to feel as if you have the farm all to yourself. Tastefully decorated with a luxurious feel. Perfect for little children as they can join in feeding the farm animals in the morning (bottle feeding the lambs, milking the goats, feeding the ducks and collecting freshly laid eggs from the chickens). Beautiful accommodation in a tranquil setting, no better place to unwind from the rat race."

"We had an absolutely fantastic time at Landmeterskop. Valerie has not spared one thing when it comes to the extras in this amazing cottage. She had thought of everything when it came down to making our stay an unforgettable one! I have recommended her place to everyone we know and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The cottage was super clean and beautifully decorated. You can collect free range eggs and milk the goats. I cant rate this place highly enough!"

"This place has to be one of the best vacation spots my family have been to in years! We still talk about it today. My kids loved being involved in the day to day operations of the farm and Tsala. Oh my word she is too precious. She was the perfect host in the owner's absence. We will definitely return. Absolutely stunning."

"Perfect getaway for the family. Homestead is lovely for a bigger group of people. More than enough space for everyone. Children absolutely loved it, feeding the animals and personal attention from employee on the farm."

"Wow! Beautiful farm with absolute stunning cottages. Valerie and kie took great care to make everyone feel right at home. Was spoilt rotten with all the little special surprises everywhere. Kids loved every minute of it. Will definitely be coming back."

"This is a piece of heaven on earth! We spent a (way too short) weekend at the Dormer cottage and I was blown away from the moment I stepped in. The cottage is beyond charming, immaculately decorated in old farm-style and the cosy fireplace, stocked with wood was a huge bonus. Every single need was catered for, from the fresh flowers to the homemade rusks. In the morning you can get involved in the farm activities and I thoroughly enjoyed giving milk to the little lambs. What an experience for a city girl! Highly recommended to recharge your batteries in beautiful surroundings."

"What a beautiful place to visit. The cottage was very comfortably furnished and we lacked nothing. The children loved visiting the animals everyday and we are looking forward to going back in the summertime when we can make use of the farm dams for swimming."

"The best self-catering accommodation we have ever been to. Beautiful farm and surroundings, our cottage was spotless, lovingly decorated and equipped with absolutely everything, and all the farm staff were warm and friendly. Tsala, Valerie and Theuns were wonderful hosts who have thought of everything. We are planning our return visit already."

"This was an outstanding getaway. The website photos are gorgeous, but the place is far more beautiful in person. The facilities were amazing, they have thought of absolutely everything. Spotlessly clean, well equipped, well stocked and comfortable. The setting is perfect for a quiet, relaxing time away. A must visit."

"This has to be some of the best self-catering accommodation I have ever seen. The attention to detail is magnificent! An incredible place."

"What an awesome place! This farm is beautiful, everything on the farm is well maintained. We stayed in the 'Homestead' cottage (5 adults) - cottage is stunning, every attention to detail and consideration has been taken, 5-star decor. The farm is amazing, sheep, chickens, goats, lamas in the field, all so close to you. This is a perfect place to take your kids, very safe, lots to do, take bikes, if you have, as you can cycle all around the farm. We fed the goats and milked them, collected eggs from the chickens, walked amongst the sheep - absolute bliss. Food for the soul. You will love it."

"We had an awesome time on this beautiful working Farm. The cottage was spotless and so beautifully decorated, so much loving attention to detail. Our host Valerie and Team were lovely and helpful. We loved the peacefulness of the farm, the sheep coming to visit in the mornings and whilst we were braaing. Feeding the goats and ducks made us really forget about Suburbia. It is also not to far situated from Stanford and all its great restaurants, lovely cheese farm and wineries. We will be back."

"This is one of the top places to go to for a weekend away or for however long you want. The interior of these self catering cottages is of the best that I have been to. Everything is well thought of and lots of effort has been made to make each room very comfy and neat. There is a nice indoor fire place and a outdoor braai area on the stoep. From each cottage you have a wonderful view of the Overberg area. The cottages are far apart enough to feel as though you are on your own and that your privacy wont be compromised. We would without a doubt visit the farm again in the future. The price is also a plus, very affordable."

"The cottages are fantastic, stocked with everything you could need for a weekend getaway! There is also tons of stuff to keep you entertained, from collecting eggs from the chicken coup in the mornings, mountain biking, a 4x4 trail and a lot more that we didn't get around to doing on this visit. Will definitely be going back at some stage."

"We absolutely loved our stay here. Not only are the cottages beautifully and tastefully furnished, but they are equipped to a level of detail not many self-catering facilities can boast. Will definitely be returning."

"Landmeterskop is the best getaway ever! My family and I went there and all of us loved it. We will definitely go back, my boys can hardly wait. We've traveled around and could not find any other place that matched the high standards and quality service that we've received at Landmeterskop. From the moment you walk in there you can feel that the place was decorated with pure love. The staff are so amazing, we did not have the pleasure to meet the owners but I just love them for giving us an experience of a lifetime at Landmeterskop. Thanks to Valerie, you are a God send, keep doing what you are doing and we will see you again soon."

"If you are seeking peace and solitude, these delightful, tastefully decorated cottages deliver in every respect. Private and offering a true sense of remoteness on a beautiful farm, the owners could not have done more to make us feel truly welcome! Thank you for a perfect stay."

"What a beautiful place and what fantastic lodging! We couldn't have chosen a lovelier place for our big family holiday. We spread ourselves between the homestead and one of the enchanting cottages (both gorgeous, immaculately clean, charming and comfortable way above average). The set-up catered for all the varying ages, the kids loved the farm vibe, milking the goats, feeding the lambs and collecting the chicken eggs in the morning (with the delicious bonus of eating them), the teenagers enjoyed the wonderful damn swimming and paddle on the rowing boat. In the evening we all had fun playing board games around the outside porch braai area. The lovely owners were incredibly generous with their time and knowledge too. Highly recommend this place for big families in the homestead or romantic getaways in the cottages."

"I almost don't want to tell anyone how amazing this cottage is, because we want to be able to return again and again, and when word gets out, I think there will be a long waiting list! Such a beautiful farm with exquisite attention to detail in the cottages. Waking up to the bleating of little lambs as they cavort and play all around the cottage. Coffee and rusks in the sun strewn dining room. A cozy and romantic fireplace to cuddle up to at night. A challenging run up the mountain on Sunday morning. Brilliant sunset and outdoor braai. Very comfy double bed (my personal grading criteria!). A short weekend away that felt like a two week holiday - such awesome restoring of the soul!"

"The stay was amazing and then I got physically ill! Even then, Valerie (our host) literally nursed me whilst I was in bed trying to recover and kept an eye on the kids too. The view outside our cottage was idyllic and exactly what we needed to recoup. I will definitely recommend and visit Landmeterskop again and again."

"I do not give this little gem in the Overberg a 5-star rating without any thought. Everything on this beautiful farm, from the warm and inviting hostess (and her lovely husband), to the well-cared for sheep, the cheeky goats to the charming cottages, shouts, "5 stars!". Everything has been thought of; hot water bottles, lavender bath salts, fresh flowers in the bathrooms and kitchen. It is so clear that Valerie has put her heart and soul into making sure that her guests have a wonderful stay. And we did! Valerie was generous with her time, and her enthusiasm for their farm is contagious. I had a chance to meet their Alpaca (who thinks he's a sheep - get the full story from Valerie herself), check out the new born sheep, meet the ducks (not just any ducks... chocolate brown ducks, caramel ducks, and they are bringing in even more interesting breeds too), and of course milk the goats. (Well I didn't milk her per say, but I drank fresh goat's milk the whole weekend!). We went in winter, and when we weren't lazily exploring the green expanse that is their farm, we cuddled with blankets by the crackling fireplace. I cannot wait to go in summer, and swim in one of their fabulous (and clean) dams. I could continue to rave on and on, especially about how tastefully the cottages are decorated, or how relaxed we were when we got home. Bottom line, book now. I'm already organizing our next visit."

"What a lovely few days we had. Our family really needed a break and we were so pleased with our choice. If you are looking for the beauty of nature and a very clean and well equipped cottage with very friendly and helpful hosts then this is the one. It was a wonderful farm experience. We can not wait for our next visit."

"I had an incredible time. The accommodation was exceptional and the farms itself is beautiful and peaceful. Furthermore, the hosts were extremely welcoming and I will most certainly return for another vacation."

"A wonderful place to forget all you're problems in the real world. The scenery is stunning and the hosts cater to your every need. Look forward to visiting many times in the future."
