Budget Getaways Review
Gorgeous location, two stone cottages guaranteed to blow your socks right off, sea and mountain vistas… All within easy striking distance of Cape Town CBD.
Whether it's to satisfy a romantic itch, or, if you're a plattelander, a craving for some city lights, Leopardstone will impress. Big time.
Blending beautifully into Noordhoek's fynbos-covered hilltops, Leopardstone Hills is a world removed from the urban hum rising up from the other side of the mountain. Ocean vistas replace palisade fences, the happy twitter of sugarbirds and sunbirds replace the baying neighbourhood hounds, fine accommodation replaces your humble domestic abode.
First up, with its distinct romantic vibe is Stone Mountain Cottage. Accommodating six, the cottage is a mix of stone, glass and timber. A Queen loft bedroom with ensuite bathroom forms the main boudoir - accessed via a spiral staircase.
Downstairs you’ll find two more bedrooms leading off the open-plan living area. Sweeping views flow off the timber deck, down the valley towards the ocean.
In keeping with the romantic theme, Stone Mountain Cottage comes with a creatively designed outdoor shower.
Wandering over to Pebble Beach Cottage, this is privately appointed and sleeps four - as such suited to two couples or small family.
Fresh blue and white tones guide the decor palette, the valley and ocean views are again impressive, and the timber deck will be pure bliss after a frazzled week behind your chipped melamine-veneer desk.
The main Queen bedroom is ensuite (naturally), and zips open to the deck. The second room comes with twin beds and this time opens onto a private courtyard.
Abutting the deck and braai area is your own private plunge pool. Life can so tough for some!
To be honest, us Budget slackers would have no urge whatsoever to leave the premises. However, for all ye Do-ers there's a natural wetland swimming pool just down the way, an organic vege garden for the evening salad, a hammock (that sounds more like it!), and a giant chess board.
A short drive away you’ve got Noordhoek Beach for sandcastle-building and a loooong walk, Silvermine for hikes and mountain biking, and plenty in the way of fine eateries.
Price-wise, Leopardstone is best value out of December peak season. However, factoring in the fuel savings and general standard, this is one getaway worth forking out a little more for.
A guest comment sums Leopardstone Hills pretty well: “To sit at the end of the day with a glass of wine and THAT view!”
Cheers to that.
"The hosts were lovely. The cottage is beautiful and very well equipped with lots of lovely touches and beautiful views. The two pools in summer will be a blessing. Pebble Beach Cottage is attached to the house."

"It's always a pleasure to stay at the Leopardstone Hill Country Cottages. This year we were at the Pebble Cottage and 4-years ago at the Leopardstone Cottage. Both have great views and both have great personalities. Allison and Richard are easy going and generous hosts, you won't want to leave. Thanks for everything and hope to return another year."
