Set under a glade of pine trees and staring over the rolling grasslands of the Southern Berg, Little Wing Teepee Camp certainly is a getaway with a difference.
Best booked by a single group, this collection of four teepee-style canvas tents face a central fire pit and braai area, with trout dam alongside.
Ducking into the teepees, all four sleep two apiece, but with additional space for your kids on mattresses.
The decor is cosy and authentic - among it all bedding, towels, gas heaters, a table and lanterns.
Central to your mobile Apache lifestyle is a communal camp kitchen that's fully equipped with cutlery, crockery, fridge, freezer, stove and microwave. As important, the ablutions are kitted out with flush loo’s (yayyy!), hand basins and hot showers.
After a night under a star-smothered sky, it's time to saddle up and take a brisk horse ride into the wild hinterland - this is by arrangement.
A little more suited to metro man, hiking and biking options are in no short supply in the Cobham and Colesford Nature Reserves - it's about a 20km drive to get there. You can even fire up your metal steed and head up the Sani Pass, to Africa’s highest pub. What better day trip.
Life on the plain has never been so good.
