Budget Getaways Review
If you are looking for a spacious farm getaway, Orchards may well be the answer. On offer is a private self-catering house overlooking an olive grove on a fruit, olive and wine grape farm called Odessa. The farm lies in the picturesque Tulbagh valley about 6km from the village itself, and its decent choice of restaurants and historic attractions.
The guest house sleeps six comfortably (or 10 at a push), and features all the home comforts. The three double en-suite bedrooms - Room 1 has a queen and a bunk bed, Room 2 four singles, and Room 3 a queen - open onto a reed- and vine-covered veranda overlooking the surrounding orchards, mountains, gorgeous sunsets and tranquil countryside.
One of the rooms boasts a queen-sized brass bed and a fireplace for those chilly winter days, when the surrounding peaks are often capped in white; the other two rooms have oil heaters. All have fans for summer.
The living area is open-plan, with a fully equipped industrial-style kitchen (which serves active duty for the cooking school) and a separate scullery with dishwasher. There is a comfortable dining area and the spacious lounge features a fireplace, aircon and telly with DSTV (bring own card).
The house is fully equipped with linen, towels, crockery and cutlery. French doors lead out onto the terrace with a built-in braai and boma.
"A lovely farm cottage out of town but still close enough to all attractions. All the privacy you desire. Lovely braai area and inside fire place. Especially loved the Nguni calves. Highly recommended."

"Nice place with spacious rooms, beautiful deck and well equipped kitchen. The tv was however not working with our DSTV card but we did not really need it."

"Our family had a wonderful stay at this well equipped, tidy and comfortable getaway. The Haddad's were accommodating and stayed in touch via email before we got there. We'd love to return and spend some time here in the Summer as the stars were amazing. We had a lovely winter retreat away and the log fire in the lounge and heaters in the rooms kept us toasty. Thanks for a great time."

"Great place for a getaway with a bunch of friends. It's a very relaxing place and the layout of the farmhouse is perfect as a social setting for a braai or for cooking in the kitted out kitchen. Two thumbs up."

"We had a fabulous stay at this farm. It was peaceful, serene and just plain gorgeous. The hosts are friendly and helpful and it was great fun. There were 7 teenage boys who went crazy and enjoyed the fresh air and open spaces. I would really recommend this to anybody. A swimming pool would round it off nicely though! (hint hint)."

"What a beautiful place to stay. We went for my dad's 70th birthday and I believe it was a great birthday present for him. Lisa and John are so friendly. Accommodation is clean, neat, with awesome views! We will definitely be back!"

"This was our destination for a weekend away as three families. The accommodation is beautiful - and what a lovely setting! There was plenty to do to keep everyone happy (morning markets, chocolate tasting, walks in the orchards, soccer on the grass) and our Saturday night cooking class resulted in a Mediterranean feast! Our hosts were great - very helpful in organising babysitters, helping us choose what to do etc. We recommend it and are planning to return!"

"What a wonderful weekend we had. The hosts are very relaxed and welcoming. The place has been beautifully renovatd and very clean. The kichen is a cook's paradise. Wonderful setting and most importantly my kids had an absolute ball. We will definitely go back. I will highly recommend it everybody."
