Budget Getaways Review
A relatively stress-free jaunt up the road from the Mother City, and a mere 15 kays from Melkbosstrand, Sundowne Recreational Farm is an easy escape for couples or small groups not up to spending hours behind the wheel.
Spread across 34ha of rolling grassland, the farm not only offers a relaxed respite from the 'burbs, but also a purpose-built obstacle course known as ‘The Hard Yard’ at the other end of the continuum.
Between the two extremes, there are horseriding options, farm walks, tasty breakfasts and vistas of Table Mountain to keep you happy.
Accommodation-wise, the five ensuite bedrooms are simple, yet tastefully decorated, with private entrances. Each sleeps two and is equipped with either Queen, King or twin beds, all draped in quality linen. The hearty breakfast is part and parcel of the deal.
What’s more, all of the above have a secure yard, allowing you to bring Fido along for the ride.
There’s a communal dining area, bar and living room with free WiFi and DStv, plus you’ve got a central braai and self-catering area which tends to be the social hub at Sundowne.
Easy peasy to get to, enough on the menu to keep you busy, glowing guest reviews, Sundowne is your happy place when your weekend in the city looms large and dreary.

"Great place with great hosts! Peaceful and welcoming - home away from home. And a lovely size private garden for my pooch. Cannot wait to return - already booked for next month. Thank you for a wonderful getaway."

"Exceptionally high level of care and service from the extremely friendly and kind owners. An added bonus was the great food from a very talented cook. We loved this place and its people and will definitely be back!"
