In the heart of sometimes snowy Sutherland sits The Artist's Cottage. Renovated to include a few modern touches, this cottage still clings to its original flair.
With two double bedrooms and two full bathrooms, this seems like a perfect spot to reconnect with the kids or enjoy a tech-free trip with some good friends. The bathroom in the loft bedroom (accessible by stairs inside or outside the house) is totally open plan and showcases a vintage loose-standing Victorian bath.
Back downstairs is the open-plan kitchen and dining area with its gigantic fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped for Karoo-style meal making.
The feedback for this one is a bit of a mixed bag, but we reckon it’s well worth a shot.
"We arrived after staying overnight in few places around the area all at a cheaper price and the Artist's Cottage was a disappointment. It was the most expensive yet had nothing much to offer. Nothing for outside; no braai, no chairs, no table. The inside is nicely decorate but there were no dustbin bags, toilet paper, dish washing liquid. The toilet was broken with water that kept running. The fridge made a big noise non stop. The tongs for the inside fire was broken. The kitchen light was broken. The house wall is starting to fall We payed for 2 nights but left after 1."

"What a lovely time we had in Sutherland. The accommodation was really really lovely. We will definitely be going back again. Thanks to Annelien for organizing wood for us and a personal touch of brownies on arrival! The only fault would be that a new lounge suite is needed. We had a wonderful time there - so peaceful and relaxing."
