Budget Getaways Review
Running out of coastal options for the fast-approaching hols? How about then heading a little inland to a swanky ol' farmhouse perched on 560ha of rolling Overberg countryside?
The Homestead takes the form of a newly-renovated farmhouse with gorgeous valley views and a barnyard of farm activities right on your doorstep. From milking goats, to collecting eggs, The Homestead is every young aspiring farmer's fantasy.
With deep views unfurling from the stoep, the buzz of farm life in the background, and 200ha of natural fynbos thrown in at no extra charge, The Homestead ticks all the group getaway boxes: a happy balance of comfort, privacy, nature and real Macoy farm atmosphere.
Poking around the house itself, 'spacious' is the first thing that jumps to mind. With three bathrooms (two showers and one bath) and six bedrooms (a double, four twins and a single), the house is perfect for two families or a group of friends. It sleeps eleven total.
A well-stocked farm kitchen is open-plan to the dining room and its long sociable table. Then you’ve got a bigger lounge with games area and another small lounge with fireplace.
The stoep is a gem - a chillout spot deluxe. Firepit, hammock, sauna room, built-in braai, glorious views, your chances of escape are near zilch.
What else to do on the farm? Plenty. While the kids are playing Ol' Macdonald, you can go mountain biking, walking, picnicking, swimming in one of two dams, climbing the viewpoint for a sundowner…
Out the farm gate, there's Stanford, the Klein River Cheese Factory, The Birkenhead Brewery and coastal attractions of the Hermanus area.
A fine group getaway in the making.
"We loved our stay, the farm is geared towards kids, the setting is fabulous. Their hospitality and attention to detail is great. We already dreaming of going back. Thanks so much for having us! "

"Thank you so much to Valerie and Theuns for a wonderful weekend. The accommodation was awesome and your hospitality and staff were five-star. Your farm is a kiddies paradise. The kids just loved collecting the eggs and milking the goats with Tsala and Ostin. And thank you for taking them on the tractor ride and showing them how the farm works. I really can say thank you enough! Our run up to the look out point was also a highlight. We will really recommend Landmeterskop to others and we will be back again soon."

"Our family enjoyed the most wonderful farm weekend together. The Homestead is beautifully appointed with one's every need carefully taken care of. From delicious freshly baked farm rusks, crisp white linen, fluffy towels and shower gel to well stocked fire places and walking sticks. This first class experience started right from the beginning with Valerie's responsiveness to our enquiry and carried all the way through the weekend as each staff member welcomed us and introduced us to a farm yard of fun, feeds, milking, egg collecting and long lashed gazes from Don Carlos the alpaca. Topped with floating on tubes in the dam, sunsets over grazing sheep fields and the crackle of wood in the fire-pit, this getaway is a winner."

"Wat een prachtig weekeinde hadden we op die boerderij. Alles was eerste klas geregeld. Mijn man werd 90 en er werd zelfs een heerlijke doos chocolade aan hem geschonken met een handgemaakte mooie kaart. Werkelijk buitengewone behandeling. Ik raadt iedereen aan om daar een weekeinde of meer door te brengen. En voor kinderen is het een paradijs. Dank aan allen die onze dagen daar tot een feest maakten."

"The Homestead is incredibly spacious and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The kids absolutely loved feeding the goats and collecting eggs for our breakfast. The only drawback is the lack of a bath but plans are under way to include one. A fantastic getaway for a large group. The braai area is especially nice."

"I wish we could give more than 5 stars for this gorgeous farm! Valerie has thought of absolutely everything, the amenities of a 5 star guest house with 2 star prices. I cannot praise this farmstay highly enough. The 'Homestead" is beautifully furnished down to a cupboard full of brand new board-games (unlike the tatty collection you normally find). The dam with its tractor tyres, diving jetty and all the animals, what more could we want."

"Absolutely loved it! Our kids milked goats and drank the milk, hand-fed lambs and collected free-range eggs for breakfast. We had such a relaxed experience. The house is big and the perfect farmhouse, even a Miele fridge in the kichen so luxurious! It was quite hot but there are fans in all the bedrooms so we slept well. The staff were incredible, very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We will definitely be back."

"We stayed at the Landmeterskop homestead with friends for four days over Christmas. We had a wonderful time the homestead is beautifully decorated in a traditional farm style, and it is immaculately clean. The setting is absolute tranquility on a working sheep farm. I had forgotten how delicious a fresh free range egg and fresh Goats milk can be. The owners were away whilst we were there, but the Lady who had been left to take care of us, Tsala, was brilliant, her hospitality was 5-star, she is a beautiful lady and a credit to Landmeterskop, in fact all of the staff we met were great, they all made is feel at home. The farm is easily accessible from Cape Town, not far from Standford, it is ideal for a weekend getaway."

"This place is fantastic! We took two families and 4 children from 2-7yrs old and they all loved it. There is lots to do on the farm, feeding the animals and collecting the eggs was a daily highlight. The homestead is beautifully decorated and has everything you need, its so spacious and there is plenty of room for the kids to run around. The hosts are so friendly and you wont want for anything. This is going to fast become a Budget Getaways favourite and we cant wait to go back."
