Budget Getaways Review

A neat, no-nonsense abode fronted by green lawns rolling down to the water's edge, The River Bungalow lazes on the banks of the Breede River, 20km from Worcester.

We're yet to receive guest feedback, but it looks like one of those rare Huck Finn spots where you have a choice of doing absolutely nothing or taking full advantage of the river surrounds. To the latter end your bungalow comes equipped with canoes, paddles and lifejackets; all you need to pack is the straw hat, swimming towels, fishing rods and sun cream.

In theory the house can sleep a grand total of 15, spread across three bedrooms. Each of these has a double bed and triple bunk beds - that's one family per room. You might prefer to spread out a little and limit the total numbers?

As far as servicing the crowds, there's a double shower, loo and basin, plus a second loo off the living room. Additional ablutions and showers are to to be found outside.

The living area is open-plan and simply furnished, with exposed brick walls and screeded floors. Mod-cons take the form of DSTV, DVD player and sound system.

The fully equipped kitchen is tribe-ready, with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, electric hob and aircon.

Throw open the double doors from the living area and main bedroom, and you're on the covered patio, with undercover braai area idling close by.

Across the lawn (perfect for late afternoon cricket and G&T-fuelled croquet), there's the separate boma and braai - both literally on the water's edge. Where better to while away a summer's eve?

Within easy reach of Cape Town, wonderfully appointed on the water, heaps of space suited to chilled living, nicely kitted, The River Bungalow is guaranteed R&R.

Very good facilities and a fantastic spot on the edge of the river. A weekend give you the equivalent of a week holiday. Fish, canoe, swim, play games, relax and enjoy the tranquility of this beautiful river place."

"Lovely place to chill out. Great out door entertainment area. Nice rooms with bunk beds in the rooms."
