Budget Getaways Review

Yet another invite to a Winelands wedding has landed in your Inbox; and since you haven't cracked the VIP list you're once again faced with that horrible dilemma of where the ^$#^!! to stay.

Roll on Tulbagh Guest House, an all-in-one stay-over right in the heart of town.

Flicking through the guestbook, there's not much to find fault in: “A lovely setting, delicious breakfast and a quaint town.” Another one: “We’ve stayed at Tulbagh Guest House three times in recent years and keep coming back.”

This historic house is set in a quiet street of Tulbagh and surrounded by lush gardens and distant mountain views - in winter you'll gaze upon snow-capped peaks, in summer you'll be viewing same (sans snow) from behind a frosted beer in the pool.

Checking out the rooms, there are three double ensuites (two with baths, one with shower), each with a private entrance leading onto a small patio and the garden proper.

There’s a small sitting area in each room, as well as TV and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

Worried about waking your hosts when you arrive back after the drunken reception? No need to be concerned, you’ve got remote controlled access, plus off-street parking.

Dealing with that JC Le Roux headache of note is made easier with a satisfying guesthouse fry-up; this is served in the main dining room and included in the price... If you've overextended on the special couple's gift (silly you), there's the option of bed only.

With a warm and welcome vibe, comfortable rooms, friendly hosts and central location, and breakfast on cue, Tulbagh Guest House packs a lot of punch for your dosh. Try it!
