Some way along the road less traveled, about 15 kays from Underberg vilage, you will arrive at a rustic river lodge with rolling hills and a fresh running river.
With a choice of eight self-catering units that can sleep anyting from two to ten guests, there is no shortage of choice. As a result, Umzimkulu River Lodge caters to a range of weekenders - from couples looking for a mountain hideout, right through to Brady Bunch families arriving in the Kombi packed with kids and hounds.
The units appear spacious and comfortably furnished. Each has a well-equipped kitchen, as well as private braai area to enjoy those starry summer evenings.
If hubbie is showing signs of strain behind the stove, there is an a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner menu available - all best enjoyed on the deck overlooking the river.
Activities at the lodge are in no short supply, with bass and trout fishing, tubing, canoeing and birding heading up the list. For the kids, an animal farm, treehouse and mini golf (to name but a few), are at hand. Umzimkulu can even supply you with a babysitter should it come to that.
A good option for nature- and people-loving families who could do with a break from the big urban smoke.
