Budget Getaways Review
From it's fertile base in the Elgin Valley, this charming boutique wine estate gazes upon the Groenberg Mountains.
The farm is home to Mike and Mel and their hounds - as the guest feedback suggests, they're a super-friendly lot.
Life on Belfield is all about good wine and healthy R&R. Gorgeous gardens, easy strolls with the above hounds (who've never been known to say No to a walk), a spot of birdwatching, braaing and chilling at base camp, jaunts to surrounding farm stalls, wine estates, the whales at Hermanus, you're pretty much guaranteed a superb weekend.
Accommodation comes courtesy of four well-appointed and tastefully decorated cottages - Shiraz, Oak, Acorn and Apple Rose.
A good option for larger groups or two families, Shiraz Cottage sleeps eight in four twin bedrooms. Leading off the kitchen is a spacious lounge with fireplace, a family room (with a double futon couch, TV and DVD player with a selection of DVD's) and separate dining room. The garden overlooks the orchards and vineyards, with mountain views beyond that. Staying outside, you've got a fire-pit and braai area.
Oak Cottage is a smaller unit sleeping four. It's privately set and fronted by a large field - perfect for that dad-son cricket match. The cottage has two bedrooms, an equipped kitchen and living area with fireplace. There’s a covered verandah overlooking the garden and more mountain views.
For couples, Acorn Cottage and the newly added Apple Rose Cottage offers plenty of character. It comes packaged with a double bedroom, lounge with fireplace and equipped kitchen. The stoep has a braai area, plus there’s a fire-pit in the garden. Your kiddies won't be allowed to join you in eithe of these two cottages.
Elegant accommodation, plenty to do on and around the farm, a wine estate-mountain setting, simple as anything to get to from the city, we don't think you can go wrong with Belfield.
"We had a lovely time at Belfield. We visited during the harvest season and tasted superb wines while using Belfield as a base to explore area and watch a prominent bike race. We enjoyed relaxing at the shady cottage and spacious stoep among quiet surroundings. Our toddler loved the "berries" (grapes) and the doggies, especially Pumba, and if Bella had jumped in our car, we might have take her home with us! Sweet Daisy was too busy monitoring the grape pickers and ushering them up and down the drive!"

"My boyfriend and I recently had long awaited weekend away at Belfield Farm, and I can say it was definitely worth the wait. The owners were away, but Christeen was there to assist if we needed anything. Christeen was an attentive and helpful hostess, always checking up and asking if we were okay and if we needed anything. She was kind and sweet and even left us with hugs when we departed. The facilities were cosy, clean and homey, and had everything we needed. The farm is tranquil and beautiful, so if you are looking for peace and quiet with surrounded by nature, it is the perfect spot. Last but not least, our favourite part was meeting the dogs Bella, Pumbaa and Daisy, they made the stay that much better!"

"Acorn Cottage was perfect for me and my daughter. Mel and Mike are the perfect hosts and you immediately feel welcome in their little piece of heaven. Great hosts, the cutest cottage and beautiful surrounds made for a dreamy mini-break. We'll definitely be back! "

"Our hosts at Belfield Wine Estate were as charming as the surroundings. Idyllic life on a boutique wine estate, with vines growing only a few meters away from our front door. The cottage was delightful and spotless with a generous outdoor furnished porch. Mike treated us to a tasting of his excellent wines, with the backdrop of the sun setting over the mountains. There is a fantastic delicatessen/farm stall with all the best local produce, just down the road, plus lots of great eateries close by. Looking forward to a return soon."

"We spent two days on the farm and what a charming cottage Acorn was - beautifully and tastefully decorated. We spent hours sitting chatting on the porch, the feel on the farm is homely and extremely well kept. You have all you need, the cottage is of top class and our hosts were very accommodating and ensured that our stay was pleasant. We also spent time walking around the farm and enjoying a very beautiful garden. It's also situated very close to a farm stall which is well stocked with all the best goodies. A definite place to go back to in the future."

"My stay at Belfield was like a stay at home away from home. Mel and Mike are very hospitable and friendly hosts. They really tried to tend to all my needs while I was staying there. The little cottage is equipped with everything you need for a self catering stay and I felt very at home in the little kitchen I had my own parking place with my own private oak tree. I am going there again in the springtime and I am looking forward to see this tree in lush green. Thanks for a wonderful stay."

"I really hesitated. Should I write a review on this place or not? I mean they are already fully booked until June and we want to be able to go again! A review might mean that we can only go in December again! I dont think we can wait so long. What a gem. We managed to rent Acorn Cottage for one night to run away from the December rush. The cottage is stunning, the gardens are beautiful and the wines are fantastic. Thank you Mike and Mel (and the gorgeous hounds) for being such fabulous fabulous hosts. We will definitely be back in the winter to use that little fire place."

"We stayed in Oak cottage which was very well appointed and comfortable. Hosts Mike and Mel were friendly and accommodating. The cottages are on a boutique wine farm which is beautiful and has great views in a very convenient location (just off the N2 near the Peregrine Farm Stall). Wood and catering essentials like coffee were provided. Access was easy on good roads. The surrounding area offers much in terms of scenery, wine tasting, fruit growing and flowers. Mike can arrange personal wine tasting on request."
