Three kays from the Kowie River Mouth, Bretton Beach Crest Holiday Cottages is a family-run resort with nine rustic seaside cottages tucked away in a natural dune forest.
The cottages offer plenty of privacy, views of the ocean (from most), and are a mere hop and skip to the beach, which is a big plus.
Sleeping a total of six per unit, you've got two bedrooms (double, twins or bunk beds), a shared bathroom (bring own towels) with separate loo, and an equipped kitchen and open-plan living room.
The cottages come with local-channel TV, but if you can't do without DTSV, you're welcome to plug in your own decoder and smart card.
Step outside and you've got a small deck with braai and braai grid.
Down on the beach, there's a shallow tidal pool, which the kids will love. The beach is great for walks, fishing and swimming. The Kowie River is a short drive away, as is Port Alfred's spread of chilled restaurants and eateries.
