Budget Getaways Review
With two beautifully renovated cottages spilling soothing views over orchards and vineyards, it’s easy to see why the pages of the Cheverells guest book paint such a rosy picture. “The cottage was just gorgeous, with everything you could want for the perfect weekend with your other half,” says one recent romantic. Another makes mention of little details that count: “Thoughtful touches - it was a celebration and when the hostess found out, she dropped off a bottle of bubbles.” Sounds like our type of place!
The cottages, Braeburn and Kiku have been lovingly restored and furnished in an elegant French country style. Sitting 10m apart (but with plenty of privacy assured), each is more or less matched in features and style. Main difference is Braeburn sports a king-size bed, while Kiku has a Queen and open fireplace in the living room.
Both units are open-plan, have equipped kitchens, ensuite bathrooms with showers, percale linen and towels. DSTV and WiFi are on tap.
Ou threw the double doors you’ve got a lovely voorstoep offering soft farm vistas. A fenced garden (pets welcome on request) and braai area are common to both.
If you need to scratch the exercise itch, nearby walks and mountain bike trails are in no short supply - quizz Cath your host for the details. Further out, Elgin Valley is your oyster, with restaurants and farm stalls galore, and a number of accessible adventure activities.
Failing all that, settle in with a good book and bottle of local vino on the stoep.
Easy to reach, cosy and charming, Cheverells Farm Accommodation should have your mojo back up and running in no time.
"The cottage was just gorgeous with everything you could want for the perfect weekend with your other half. We really needed to relax after a hectic year and while my in laws looked after the kids we had a lovely relaxing and romantic stay on this apple farm in the Elgin Valley. The espresso coffee machine and percale linen were a bonus, not to mention the views!"

"The cottages are beautifully renovated with lots of charm. Furnished beautifully and super comfy beds. Thoughtful touches - it was a celebration and when the hostess found out, she dropped off a bottle of bubbles. Exquisite setting. It is a working farm but the views over the valley are out of a picture book. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family. A short 1 hour drive from Cape Town - easily accessible but feels like you're miles from the city."

An easy-to-reach bolthole from the Mother City, UnderHill Farm offers a soothing setting under giant oak trees and a poplar-lined river bank. Totally off-grid and solar ...
