Excelsior Guest Farm offers everything an old-style family farm holiday should. Simple and comfy accommodation, lots to keep you busy (and not so busy) and plenty of space and soft touches for the gang to unwind in.
Let’s set the scene... 1. A sprawling Swartland working farm, with a 15-sleeper Country House at the action epicentre. 2. Three caravans equipped with bedding and towels to soak up the overflow. 3. A venue called The Windmill, that's appointed close to Country House and caters to weddings, birthday parties, family bashes, and just about any other excuse for a social shingdig.
Taking a closer look at the accommodation, The Country House has a total of six bedrooms (one of these an outside room), with a mix of doubles, twins and bunk bed rooms. No lack of bathrooms either, with four of them spread around the house, the outside bedroom being ensuite.
As is the case for most farm houses from this era, space is in no short supply, with a roomy and equipped kitchen, living room and dining area. In true farm fashion, the kitchen sports an Aga stove.
Outdoors you’ve got a braai area, a large garden and a reservoir which serves as a swimming pool - handy addition, as the summers in this neck of the woods can be scorchers.
Moving on to the caravans (set a short distance from Country House), there's choice of four fully equipped 'vans sleeping two to four each. The caravans spill onto a lawned camp area, where tents can be pitched on request. Ablutions come in the form of four newly-built bathrooms, with showers and flush loos.
Keeping busy at Excelsior is easy, with short or long hikes and boundless mountain biking trails, and plenty of good spots to take a picnic or sundowner in picturesque surrounds.
All said and done, if you’re looking for a great value group getaway, plenty of space to roam, accommodation galore, this is it.
