Budget Getaways Review

Gracing the slopes of a hillside awash in fynbos, on a 100ha farm along the winding Robinson Pass, Mistymorn is a shipshape little timber cottage with jaw-dropping views onto a valley and the mighty Outeniquas beyond.

You’ve got it all here - cosy cabin living, hiking trails on the farm and surrounding indigenous forests, day trips down to the coast at Mossel Bay, tea and scones at the historic Eight Bells Inn just up the road. As a recent patron wisely advises: “Don’t miss out on this idyllic breakaway!”

Mistymorn offers plenty in the way of privacy and makes optimum use of the setting from the spacious timber deck.

There are two double bedrooms and a shared bathroom with shower. All towels and linen are included.

The living room and kitchenette is a shared space that includes the dining table and some couches.

Through the double doors and back on the deck, you’ve got a portable braai and views that could hold you ransom for hours on end.

The to-do list is a combo of Mother Nature and the more genteel: a trek down to the Moordkuil River, where you'll find a shack and timber deck to spread out the picnic, horse riding, guided birding walks, visits to the nearby Leeukloof Cheesery and Eight Bells...

A gorgeous setting, relaxed, comfortable accommodation, plenty to do, decent rates, we see a good future for Mistymorn.

Guest Reviews

"We regularly stay in Mistymorn cottage every December and sometimes even other times of the year. The location and view, especially early morning, is unsurpassed. The Outeniqua mountain creating a backdrop to the tranquility of the Leeukloof valley below. The facility, albeit small, has 2 bedrooms each with a double bed, 1 bathroom, and in emergency there is an additional toilet below the unit. Comfortable living area with a well equipped kitchen. The Wright family have laid out fantastic walking trails, well marked that explores the bush and Moordkuil river area around them. The trails are not too difficult and none of them are very long, about 20 minutes to an hour of comfortable walking. A specialty cheesery is also on the farm with some very tasty cheeses created by Sally and Pam. Close by is the small village of Ruiterbosch with an excellent little restaurant that creates very interesting and different meals. Hartenbos / Mosselbay is 30 minutes away to the south and Oudtshoorn and all it has to offer just over the mountain, 45 minutes away. Bird-life abound, some very rare spider orchids are hidden on one of the trails and can be seen early December. A small gem hidden away in one the few secure environments in South Africa."

"This was a wonderful breakaway away from the city noises. The chalet is equipped with everything we need for a self-catering holiday. The chalet is solar powered with a gas water heating system. It has the best view you can imagine onto the Outeniqua Mountains. We were well look after by our hosts and introduced to many "things to do" such as Leeukloof Cheesery close by. Do not miss out on this idyllic breakaway."

"The Misty Morn cottage is comfortable and cosy and we love our visits there. As nature lovers we relish the opportunity to tread the hiking trails on the farm, surrounded by indigenous forests, fragrant fynbos and striking vistas. A picnic and a swim at the Moordkuil River is always a delightful way to spend a morning. We have found the farm to be conveniently close to the ocean when we wanted a beach day but it is always with relief that we return to the peaceful tranquility that it offers. The views from the cottage are magnificent."
