Budget Getaways Review
Mountain Fly Fishing truly captures the spirit of 'Land of the Silver Mists' - a 300ha farm nestled in the forest about 3km from Haenertsburg's hub.
On offer are four self-catering cabins, each with their own personality and charm.
Kingfisher Log Cabin is an eight-sleeper cabin with three bedrooms (one King, two twins), and a sleeper couch in the lounge. Two of the rooms are ensuite. Upping your enjoyment is a balcony with view over the trout dams, and a telly for those downtime moments.
Loggers Cabin is a stone cottage that sleeps six guests across a pair of twin rooms and a sleeper couch in the lounge. The bathroom (with shower) is shared. The general experience here is more rustic, as there's no electricity. However, dont fret, the paraffin lamps and solar lights are more than adequate.
Onto Pygmy Cottage, this is a cozy open-plan two-sleeper cottage with a separate bathroom. The cottage is equipped with a TV, but bring your own DSTV decoder if you can't do without your intellectual junkfood. For a quiet spot to enjoy that early morning coffee, the balcony overlooking the trout dams will do the trick.
For those coming in the Combi bus, Fish Eagle Cottage is your go-to option. The cabin sleeps up to eight people in three ensuite rooms (a Queen, a double and a twin room), and has a cushy sleeper couch in the lounge. There's also a fireplace and a separate scullery – a must-have for those hearty cook-ups.
All four cabins are fully equipped, comfortably furnished and in mint condition. Add to the equation awesome mountain views, trout dams and fresh mountain streams, you're in for a treat.
"All I can say is "wow, wow, wow"! Mountain Fly Fishing's setting is absolutely picturesque. We were lucky to visit when the cherry blossoms and azaleas were in full bloom. Mountain Fly Fishing is a quiet retreat with mountains, dams and forests as your view. The cabins are spacious, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. As soon as you arrive you automatically unwind and you can't help but relax. I loved waking up every morning to the lovely morning chorus the birds deliver. There are dams to fly fish and lovely walking trails to explore. The quaint village of Haenertsburg is only about 15 minutes away. We will definitely be back!"

"What a wonderful find. Peace and quiet and just the most wonderful views around. We loved every moment of our stay, the unit was clean and well equipped, everything we needed was right there. The guys had a wonderful time fly fishing, and the ladies relaxed and enjoyed the peace and quiet and relaxation. Mountain Fly Fishing is perfectly located if you want to visit the sites of the nearby areas and towns. Well worth the visit and we will be back again."
