Budget Getaways Review
No two ways about it, this spot has all the makings of an idyllic family or group holiday: crystal-clear waters edged by rolling green lawns; a rim of craggy Bainskloof mountains and fynbos-clad lowlands to front, left and side; a gorgeous eleven-sleeper thatched abode with deep shady patio. Little wonder that a recent patron claims, “This is one of the most relaxing weekends away I’ve ever experienced.”
Hidden within the Mount Bain Reserve, 13 kays outside Ceres, Rivers Own is an exclusive waterfront pad that offers comfort, character and oodles of space.
The layout is split in two. The main house features a central living space, with large open-plan kitchen, roomy lounge and dining room with huge fireplace, and sliding doors spilling onto a covered patio. There is a double bedroom with three extra single beds, and a bathroom with bath and shower.
Separated from the main house are three additional double bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and own entrances opening onto the outside living area.
Strolling around the property, this is outdoor living at its finest, what with a swimming pool, large braai area with built-in braai and pizza oven, rolling lawns, and the river just a pebble's flick away.
Us slacker BG types would be content to just sit and stare and braai, but for the rest of you A-types there are hiking and mountain biking trails galore, wine tasting and cherry picking (in seaon) to be had within a short drive of Rivers Own.
A fine family/group getaway, with plenty of beds, mountains of comfort, and your own slice of river frontage - all within an easy doddle of the Mother City.
"We had a really great time at Rivers Own. What an exceptional setting for the lodge. Mountains, water and greenery, what more can you want on a break from city life. We loved it there, the peace and quiet, waking to the sound of birdsong, the gurgling river and the wind whistling through the trees made for a remarkable three days. It was probably the most relaxing and tranquil time I've had in a very long time. The house itself is beautiful, with an interesting layout, I love that it is big and can easily accommodate 8 people yet all will have privacy. None of us missed the TV, laptops were not even opened and phones were used to the minimum. And that in itself says something about the place. Also, the manager Hassan was a great help. Always willing to help with a smile and friendly too. My only regret is that we didn't book for longer."

"A genuine piece of heaven. House fully furnished and equipped with more than is expected. Both a pool and river to relax in and enjoy. Words cannot explain how amazing this place is. Access to river is easy. Water crystal clear. Such fun was had by both old and young. Wonderful pool, loved the walk in. Felt safe at all times. Owners an absolute pleasure to deal with and they go all out to make your experience a memorable one. Already booked again."
