Budget Getaways Review
Hosting guests is nothing new at the Wayside Inn; in fact back in the late 1800’s this popular refuge saw many a weary traveller dismount, hang up the leathers and tuck into a hearty meal washed down by copious volumes of ale - or so we presume given the grueling trip through kloofs and forests between George and Knysna.
Today, thanks to the N2, it's a little easier getting to Woodville, though it's still a sleepy farming hollow, where you can hike, bike or just laze around.
The 'Inn' overlooks a gorgeous expanse of lawn and lush garden and mountains cutting the skyline.
Sleeping a total seven guests, it's been lovingly restored with contemporary touches and light tones that offset the thick timber beams, thick walls and antique furnishings. It all adds up to a happy balance of the past and present.
To rest them weary bones, you’ve got three sumptuous ensuite bedrooms, with the main bedroom scooping first prize: spacious, tucked into the loft, open-plan with Victorian bath with view over the hills.
Downstairs, there are two double bedrooms, one with an extra single bed.
The kitchen is a typical old farmhouse number with fireplace, decked with gas stove, washing machine, dishwasher and microwave.
The living area comes with Flatscreen, another fireplace and comfy couches (and some free wi-fi).
Double doors lead out from here, there and everywhere to the wraparound covered veranda. Summer living at its best.
Some of the best single track mountain bike routes at nearby Garden Route Trail Park and neighbouring Oakhurst Farm, forest trails, farm and mountain walks, beach time and restaurants in and around Wilderness (15-minute drive), a coffee shop or two in Hoekwil, this is all on tap.
With all-round appeal like this, all you can now hope for is that there's room at the Inn.
"It is a perfect family get away where you can forget your trials and tribulations for a while. The country side environment is peaceful, perfect for a walk or just looking at the views especially from the upstairs main bedroom. It is also not far from the town when you want some essentials. The games were a nice touch,we had so much fun. The cookies were yummy. We will definitely come back; we loved and enjoyed the fire place. This place just has everything you need including the dishwasher so that we could have more quality time. It is a place to relax & unwind; you leave Hoekwil refreshed. It was a beautiful stay; thanks for everything Sue"

"I arrived at Wayside Inn with a weary soul but as soon as I stepped onto the wrap around veranda and entered this grand dame all my woes were forgotten. Sue's genuine warmth, the beautiful bouquet of freshly picked flowers from the magnificent garden as well as a jar filled with homemade buttery crunchie biscuits envelopes one in a warm country embrace. Wayside Inn is such a charming abode filled with a rich history, beautiful antiques which all tell a story and yet it has all the modern creature comforts. Each bedroom is very tastefully furnished and offers a peaceful nights rest on comfy beds, beautiful linen and you can be sure to be lulled to sleep by the resident orchestra of crickets and insects. What better way than to rise to the sounds of the resident roosters who are thoughtful and don't wake you up at an unreasonable hour. This all lends itself to the charm of a countryside abode. The garden is resplendent in its floral heaven along with a lush lawn for children to frolic on. The entire view creates such a tranquil picture. One is bound to lose track of time. Sue has to be one of the most attentive hostesses I've come across. She has really thought of everything to make your stay as special as can be. Our four days at Wayside Inn ended all too swiftly but we shall definitely be back. Thank you Sue for sharing your special piece of heaven on earth with us!"

"Everything about the Wayside Inn was great. The setting, the house, the atmosphere and the facilities were absolutely top-notch. From the moment we arrived, till we departed, it felt like a home away from home. One of the best places to go, and stay for a while. Highly recommended."
