Budget Getaways Review

Simple, relaxed and one block from Kleinmond’s main beach, Xanske’s Place is your typical family holiday home built in the 70‘s.

It’s a what-you see-is-what-you-get kind of getaway, with a spacious, no-frills interior and an established garden with plenty in the way of shade and chill zones to keep you happy.

The house is ideally suited to families with kids or a group of laid-back friends out for a few days of easy bonding.

The house has three spacious bedrooms: two doubles, and two sets of bunk beds in the third. It can sleep a total eight (including kids on the bunks). There’s a shared bathroom with bath and shower. Linen and towels aren't part of the deal here, so remember to bring your own.

Heading into the living area, there’s an open-plan lounge and dining room kitted with indoor braai and DSTV (bring own decoder and card). In the event hubby’s burnt the sirloin, the kitchen is fully equipped to cope with most eventualities. There's even a dishwasher to ease the pain.

Striding outside, you’ll find a stoep and braai area, off-street parking for the wagon, lots of shade and space to hang the wetsuits, towels, fishing rods and other beach apparatus.

The main beach is a mere 300m down the drag, so getting to and from the water’s edge is a doddle.

For coffee or a waterside brekkie, the pleasant Harbour Road and its string of restaurants and shops is a short drive down the road.

For a pleasant day trip head off to to nearby Betty’s Bay and onto Hermanus. Or, stay local and stroll the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, enjoy one of many day hikes in and around the Kogelberg Mountains, or simply hang out with the kids at the lagoon.

The guest feedback says it pretty much like it is: “Xanske's place had everything we needed, including loads of peace and quiet.”

No frills, no fuss, just a good old family holiday pad with a decent price tag.
