Budget Getaways Review
Overlooking the gorgeous Witzenberg valley at the foot of the Obiqua Mountains near Tulbagh, Waterval Country Lodge is an all-inclusive getaway, perfectly suited to groups or a few families looking for a hassle-free escape, with the option of meals served as well.
Jumping right in, the accommodation at Waterval comes in three forms. Guinea Fowl Lodge, The two Garden Rooms and finally The Bushcamp with 22 equipped glamping tents. So as you can see, no need to worry about a space here!
First up, Guinea Fowl Lodge. The lodge is booked exclusively, meaning you won’t be sharing with others. The lodge sleeps a total of 12 guests, with four ensuite bedrooms, each made up of a king size bed and one single bed. There is a comfortable living area, equipped kitchen and both indoor and outdoor braai facilities. To add to the luxuries list, you’ve got a private jacuzzi and easy access to the communal swimming pool. Quality linen and towels are included. Dinner and breakfast can be arranged at R200pp.
Moving along to the Garden Rooms. Set about 150m away from Guinea Fowl Lodge, these two open plan units, sit alongside each other are well suited to two families sharing and have a king size bed and two single beds in each. They have ensuite bathrooms, kitchenettes, are equipped with fridge, microwave and coffee stations. The entrances to each are separate as well as the individual patios and braai facilities. As with the lodge, dinner and breakfast can be ordered at R200pp.
The Bushcamp, wow! If you’re a glamper (and believe us, these tents are plush!), then this is your spot. Centred around a communal boma area with braai, the 22 glamping tents each sleep three and have a king and a single bed. They have bathrooms ensuite and a large covered patio in front of each tent. Worried about the summer heat? Don't sweat, they all have aircon. The bushcamp also has a plunge pool and use of the large communal pool. Linen and towels are included, as are dinner and breakfast! Served in the boma.
Being surrounded by nature reserve, there are some great walks and hiking options. As the name suggests, a stroll to the nearby waterfalls and a dip in rock pools is a must. The surrounding area has great mountain biking options, and there’s always the delights of Tulbagh just under 10 kays down the road.
With a great range of accommodation options, the choice of meals and a wholesome outdoor vibe, Waterval Country Lodge looks like a worthwhile escape, easily reached from the Mother city.
