Budget Getaways Review
This looks like a lovely weekend spot - a cosy timber cabin on a working farm circled by green lawns and newly planted plum trees, with an outlook over the vineyards and distant Langeberg mountains.
Stepping past the deck, inside it's all cosy sweet-smelling pine from one end to the other. There are two bedrooms, one with Queen bed, bathroom and shower, the other with two three-quarters and a bathroom with bath. In other words, you won't be lacking for comfort. There's also an extra single bed in the living area should you need it.
The decor and furniture is fresh and inviting - a combination of the traditional and the bright and happy. Linen is provided (please bring your own towels) and the kitchen is equipped. The living area is open-plan and filled with light courtesy of glass sliding doors and large windows.
To the front you will find a covered deck where you can braai and contemplate the deep Breede River vistas. Speaking of which... The river is a 600m stroll through the plumyards - fishing, canoeing (there is a canoe available in summer only), swimming, birdwatching and general chilling are among the varied possibilities, as is a good ol' clamber on the jungle gym for the kids.
Water to the cottage is supplied from the farm dam, so it's best to bring along water for drinking and cooking purposes.
Factor in Bonnievale's other modest attractions (cheese factory, wine tasting etc), and what you have at Apricot Farm are all the ingredients for that perfect weekend by the river.
"It was a lovely cottage to stay in. The septic tank had a funny smell the Friday night but with the fans in the room we got rid of it quickly. The rest was perfect. Beds and couches lovely to sleep and sit on. Needless to say the view from the "stoep" is exceptional."

"Overall a good experience from the word go. This little gem is the perfect place to get away from the city. Beautiful setting and very tranquil. The river was probably the highlight for me and my 9 year old, canoeing in the morning then swim and repeat in the afternoon."
(visited Jan 2018)
"Wonderful, relaxing and peaceful. It is still near a town if required. Farm life at its best in a luxurious way."

"My family and I had a wonderful time at Apricot Farm! It is a beautiful setting and the cottage was warm and inviting. Everything you could need was there so all you had to bring was food, towels and clothing. Unfortunately the river was covered in moss type stuff so we couldn't go out on the river. It is so peaceful there and we will definitely be going back."

"All around fairly good experience; the cottage is neat and spacious. Anouk, the host was very helpful and thorough from the starting process of booking, informing us of all relevant info, came to meet us on Sunday. This is a value for money package for couples/families who need a break away. We will definitely be back."
(visited Oct 2017)
"I paid a deposit and then my booking was given to somebody else! I never received the deposit back, so other people stayed there for my money! Shocking."

"The farm was just awesome and great value, we had a great short getaway. I will definitely return."

"Fantastic family weekend away, experienced in a very comfortable and beautiful setting with fantastic hosts!"

"What a delightful, private, home-away-from-home setting for our family of 6. The kids loved the fact that they had their own play area, they ran around on the lawns and there was no worry as a parent about their safety. This is highly recommended for those who prefer the 'less-busy' places to stay."

"Fantastic setting in the most peaceful and natural surrounds. Would return as often as I can!"
(visited Apr 2016)
"Such a beautiful spot and hospitality. We stayed for a week and loved the relaxing, quiet surroundings. And with two little ones with us, the little playground and plenty of fun activities down at the river was perfect. We will definitely keep this on our places to return to... such a lovely get-away!"
(visited Feb 2016)
"Excellent getaway, very peaceful and private. No disturbance from anyone. Excellent for kids. The cottage is perfect and very well equipped. We will most definitely return again."
(visited Sep 2015)
"The cottage setting is very intimate. Wide open spaces to run and play and a comfortable stoep to sit and reflect. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and called to find out where we were (we ran late) and if everything was ok, turns out we had gotten lost. It is just very cold in the winter nights, but we warmed up nicely next to the gas heater. I personally had a wonderful experience at the Apricot Farm."

"Myself and a few friends gathers annually and this year we decided to be "off-the-grid" and off we went spending a week at Apricot farm. It was one fantastic week in a beautiful cabin, spending our days in the river and evenings on the porch. We loved it and would highly recommend it and definitely will visit again!"
(visited January 2015)
"Our stay at The Apricot Farm was absolutely worth every cent spent. Lovely setting, the log cabin is stocked with everything you need. Every detail of the place is absolutely beautiful. I would go there again and again."
(visited January 2015)
"Although the pictures look as if the cottage is in a very tranquil setting is sits in fact just behind another house which is permanently rented out. Furthermore, the river is not suitable for young children to swim in as it is very deep."
(visited January 2015)
"Had a great experience. The farm owners are extremely friendly and helpful. The only suggestion would be to add a portable air cooler to the cabin because it gets hot in the main living area if one has been out and the cabin has been locked up for the day. We will definitely be returning though."
(visited January 2015)
"My wife and I needed to get away from it all for a few days and in a hurry. Apricot Farm was available for the weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The view across the green valley, Langeberg mountains in the background, the bird life, the green orchards around us, the accommodation and the peace and quiet all added to our very pleasant experience. The hosts were very friendly and helpful."

"We had an amazing stay , no complaints at all. Friendly owners. Cant wait for our next visit!"
(visited August 2014)
"Beautiful surroundings, very private, fantastic facilities and well equipped, the apricot farm cottage is a wonderful getaway! Wow! My family and I had the most wonderful three day weekend. The river was ours, along with two paddle-skis and a little fishing boat. Fun for the whole family. Cannot wait for our next visit."
(visited March 2014)
"Overall enjoyed the setting, great views all round. River setting fantastic, provides hours of enjoyment for all. Cabin well appointed and laid out, stocked with all general household needs. Downside: restricted privacy - close to main road and owners house, and the walk to the river crosses a busy main road. Last two days of our stay were ruined by two family members being badly bitten by fleas from a stray cat in area it seems according to notice on fridge."
(visited December 2013)
"We celebrated my husband's birthday at Apricot Farm - what an amazing place! I was pleasantly surprised. We enjoyed the view, the walk down to the river and of course our little one spent hours on the trampoline. When last did you see the sky and the stars so clear? This was definitely a place we will return to soon. Thanks Apricot Farm, my husband was very emotional when he found out that this was his birthday gift - a weekend away!"

"If you want to break away from the buzz and busy city life, Apricot Farm is the perfect place to choose. A place where you can find peace!"
(visited January 2012)

"We (me and my family) stayed for a few days at Apricot Farm. For us it felt like coming home. A nice and hospitable Dutch family is running a farm and the B&B. The view was magnificent. And it was a perfect base to do some sight seeings."
(visited June 2011)
"Very good cottage, in a nice surrounding. Owner speaks very good English, Dutch, German, and off course South African. Very nice, friendly and helpful people. You can live with 5 to 6 people in this cottage. Beds are good.Bathrooms are good and clean with enough warm water. Large refrigerator in the living room/kitchen."
