Budget Getaways Review
Dew Cottage is a relaxed and private escape on a little organic fruit farm called Vredenshoogte - meaning 'Peaceful Heights', or, like someone aptly put it, 'The Height of Peace'. The farm itself is found in the Keisie Valley, a picturesque corner of the world, 25km from Montagu.
Set in an indigenous garden and circled on all sides by pretty landscape, the cottage sleeps four to five, and is equipped for a comfortable self-catering weekend, with all linen, towels, feather duvets, heaters, fans, an equipped kitchen, and a fireplace in the lounge, provided. Judging by the pics the interior is simply but comfortably furnished, with enough of everything.
Outside, there's a timber deck with open views of the mountains and farmland, while a little further along you'll find the all-essential hammock - the chosen spot by many to daydream, listen to the birds and the frogs in the seasonal stream below. Move along a bit and you will find your braai and firepit for that balmy evening under the stars.
Depending on the season, fruit, almonds, sunflower seeds, herbs and vegetables are available for purchase, plus the farm makes a whole range of its own tasty jams, jellies, chutneys and conserves.
With the Langeberg mountains above, the farm often has snow-peaked winters - get your timing right and you'll experience a veritable wonderland. The rest of the year varies between a postcard picture of spring flowers, fruit trees that are either in bloom or hanging heavy with apricots, peaches and almonds.
A laid back spot perfect for couples, a small group of friends or a family with kids.
"Dew Cottage was excellent...the view and being out around the mountains and the peace and serenity. Doreen was so friendly; what a lovely person. It is nice to get out of the rat race and come to a place like this."

"This was a perfect get-away for my husband, myself and our two dogs. No wifi or cell reception allowed us to totally unplug, relax and enjoy being together. And, fear not if being without wifi is a scary thought... the town is just 20 or so minutes away. The cottage is low fuss with everything you need to be comfortable, though frankly we spent most of our time on the balcony, lazing in the hammock, staring at the mountains and admiring the bird life. Super chilled weekend that totally recharged our batteries."

"We had a pleasant time at Dew Cottage and Doreen was very helpful. The cottage is situated in a nice beautiful farm and we would love to come back and connect with all the natural biodiversity around. We will definitely recommend the place to our friends and families - they were asking about it on the pictures we took over the weekend. Doreen's neighbor was also very helpful as she organized transport for us to go the springs. Well equipped and stylish cottage! Thanks a lot."

"Our family had a fantastic time. It's very peaceful and relaxing - just you and nature. I would definitely recommend Dew Cottage to anyone who wants a break from the city life. We're definitely going back again."

"We had a very short stay but it was well worth it. Revitalizing to get away from the city with no cell phones and no TV was amazing. The stars in the sky were so bright, it was just so beautiful."

"What a fabulous weekend we had at Dew Cottage. The view is absolutely amazing - pure bliss! Doreen is truly a lovely hostess and her chocolate muffins are to die for. We'll definitely be back again. Can't wait."

"Lovely quiet place - very kind and welcoming hosts."

"Doreen is one of the sweetest and most attentive hosts that we have met. If you don't mind sharing your cottage with a friendly spider, this is a very clean, well equipped getaway location with glorious views, bird song and amazing mountain vistas. A lovely large shower with some lovely toiletries provided, home baked muffins and tasty jams makes this retreat feel luxurious. We enjoyed the walks around the farms and hills, explored an old camp site and swam in a crystal clear rock pool. Such fantastic vale for money too. There is plenty more for us to explore around Montague, which we will have to do next time instead as we just enjoyed being around the cottage, enjoying nature, forgetting about technology and the rest of the world, and reading in the hammock. Very soul rejuvenating, and well worth another visit!"

"Fantastic get away from busy town life, beautiful and relaxing. The owner of the guesthouse is a fabulous hostess, she made us muffins, jam and made us feel so at home! Awesome getaway, well recommended."

"As always this cottage has a magically peaceful quality. The owners rub off on it I`m sure. It just gets better each time we visit and the dogs write good things about it on Facebook on their return as well!"

"Doreen is an impeccable host who makes the best muffins, the cottage is comfortable and welcoming with lots of subtle luxuries. We've been three times."

"Absolutely breathtaking facilities in the middle of nowhere! The sound of a crackling fire at night and chirping birds in the day while relaxing with someone extremely special truly left me with memories I will have for the rest of my life. No amount of words could express my gratitude for the opportunity to spend such a perfect weekend in such a perfect way."

"Amazing place, lost in the middle of nowhere as we wanted it. Doreen helped us with everything we asked for, and we had a long and wonderful weekend. P.s. The hammock outside with the view is a must!"

"If I could give Dew Cottage a rating of 6 out of 5 stars, I would. We spent the most magical weekend as Doreens guests in her lovely cottage and would recommend it to any traveler. This beautiful cottage, nestled in a picturesque valley, is the perfect cure when you are feeling tired and stressed. I felt recharged and revived after just a few minutes in the hammock, gazing at the green valley and the luscious garden. Its a little piece of heaven on earth and yes, Doreens muffins are every bit as incredible as all the other reviews have it!"

"From the geese honking in the morning, to the myriad bird species tweeting in the afternoon, Dew Cottage is an auditory feast that drives all urban pressure from the soul, as does the tinkle of the crystal stream and the hiss of the braai fire in the evening. The hikes and the solitude of this getaway, and the unbelievable hospitality of Doreen, make this a more-than-once getaway, and we will be back for the third time, sooner rather than later. Bravissimo, Dew Cottage, who needs tranquilisers anyway! You rock."

"An amazing stay at a wonderful spot. The kids had a blast in the flowing river right at the cottage, racing boats downstream. Hammocks to relax in, mountain biking on the quiet roads around the farm, outings to Montagu hot springs, card games besides the fire and the cherry on top was Doreen's 'death by' chocolate muffins on Sunday morning. We look forward to returning to this special spot!"

"Had a super relaxed stay at Dew Cottage, the location is stunning and views endless. Some nice short walks on the neighboring farms. Dorreen is a wonderful hostess and provided for our every need, she was so accommodating and hospitable and cherry on top was allowing us to bring our three hounds with who had an absolute ball."

"Our stay at Dew Cottage was absolutely amazing, a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of city life! The setting was beautiful and so tranquil, and Doreen was a wonderful, friendly and informative hostess, giving us tips and suggesting activities. We enjoyed waking up to the sounds and smells of nature, and the extra little touches provided by Doreen, like a freshly baked batch of yummy muffins was a real treat. I would definitely recommend this getaway to anyone wanting a real taste of R & R."

"Shjoe, what a lekker break, such a pity it was only 3 nights, I could've stayed for 30 nights... Thanks Doreen for organising a microwave for us, you saved me hours of milk pot scouring. Your jams and chutneys are DIVINE, not forgetting the yummy nectarine-filled muffins... We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"We had a wonderfully relaxing weekend in this very charming cottage set in a lovely garden in the midst of fruit orchards in the beautiful Keisie valley. The kids loved the two hammocks on the deck. Doreen was so welcoming and her organic jam is delicious. Highly recommended. We hope to be back soon!"

"We were pleasantly suprised with this spot. We were treated to friendly small town hospitality and enjoyed our stay so much that we are already setting plans in motion to undertake another trip to Dew Cottage. Thank you Doreen (and co) for allowing us to stay at this marvelous setting. No noise, traffic, cell phone reception, dogs barking. Instead, peace, quite, fresh air and loads of time to sit and relax."
