Budget Getaways Review
There’s not much more you could ask for from a getaway; in fact, Klein Nektar's appeal will leave you a little tongue-tired after reporting back on your successful Budget Getaways weekend mission.
It sits neat and pretty against a backdrop of ragged Langeberg mountains, fringed by olive trees, vineyards and soft green lawns. As an edge-of-town setting, it ticks all the urban-yet-rural boxes.
Stepping into Klein Nektar, you’ll immediately be struck by the attention to detail - tinted screed floors, rietdak ceilings, quality furnishings, crisp white linen, a light and airy vibe… The list goes on.
There's no Eskom here, no telly and no DSTV to scramble your brain. Just pure easy living.
The living, dining and kitchen area are open-plan, with a cozy fireplace in the kitchen adding to the ambiance.
The two bedrooms have Queen beds decked in percale linen. A shared bathroom with shower sits between the two.
Flowing out from the living room via double doors is your spacious patio - man, we could grow old here. A daybed, some comfy furniture to kick back on, soothing rural views, you're set to go.
With the village centre just down the road, mozing in for a meal is a doddle.
A combo of style, urban, rural and traditional, we will put head on block and say Klein Nektar cuts the mustard big time.
"When my friend and I booked to stay at Klein Nektar, we had no idea SA was about to be hit by the worst load shedding ever. Staying off-grid has never been so appealing. Our lights stayed on (solar), our shower was hot and our stove and fridge were gas powered. Even the hot-tub was wood-fired. The lovely wood-burner in the kitchen also kept the cottage cozy at night. Our host, Henk, was most welcoming and helpful, encouraging us to pick fruit and harvest from the veggie garden. We really enjoyed staying at Klein Nektar, which was very clean, spacious and well stocked with all we needed. It also had the most wonderful wrap-around porch - complete with hammock. A perfect spot to settle down with a good book. Although located in Montagu town, it still has a very rural feel, as one is surrounded by olive groves, citrus trees and a small field. We found this to be a very good base for our holiday exploring and I would definitely recommend it to others (I already have!)."

"A lovely little cottage tucked between the olive trees."

"We thought it was a delightful time away from home. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the setting was exactly what we were looking for. We had a great time and will definitely be back."

"We fell in love with this gem of a place. All we want to do is to move there permanently and stay forever, wrapped in the calm and beauty and silence that is Montagu. We will be back. Thank you Vernon for your smile and warmth. Thank you Kai for your kindness."

"Klein Nektar is a hidden gem! We loved our time in this peaceful and beautiful cottage nestled in the Olive trees. We had a warm welcome and the cottage was in excellent condition. More than what we hoped for!"

"We received a warm welcome from the farm manager, Vernon. It's set in a great location - within strolling distance of all the shops and restaurants, but the cottage feels as if it's far away from it all. The cottage is beautiful - tastefully decorated and very neat and tidy. We loved the fresh flowers in the rooms."

"Lovely well appointed comfortable cottage. We could not have asked for better. We were welcomed by a very friendly and informative host who was always available to answer any queries. This place is highly recommended. I will be back - next time with my family."

"Thank you to Vernon who kindly welcomed us in the street already and showed us around the cottage. We believe that we saved the best for last with Klein Nektar - everything was perfect, tidy and in its place. Crisp white linen and towels and the cottage is immaculate with stunning views! We loved our evenings by the fire place playing scrabble, and long chats over wine and candle light. Perfect and beautiful setting to unwind completely. Highly recommended to all and we would love to return for longer."

"The cottage setting is fantastic. The team were friendly and at our disposal when needed and the recommendations about the town spot on. Absolutely flawless."

"We had a great stay at Klein Nektar! Vernon and Kai were very helpful and hospitable - they could not do more to ensure that we had comfortable and pleasant stay. The cottage is charmingly simple, whilst still having everything in place to create a very homely atmosphere. We recommend it and will definitely be visiting again in the future!"

"We had a fantastic stay and felt really spoilt. We had a good relaxing time."
(visited Jul 2016)
"We stayed at Klein Nektar during the July holiday. We loved the house. It is very spacious, it has a big lovely kitchen living area and stoep area. The stoep has two tables and a nice view onto the vineyards and the olive trees. The house is private and that is our primary request when traveling. We received a muscadel of the region as well as rusks and milk. The owner welcomed us and all the arrangements were great. In fact, my husband forgot something and the owner phoned us after 20 minutes so we could pick up our stuff. We made a good study on accommodation in Montagu and this was our choice. We made the right decision and recommend it highly."

"We only spent one night at Klein Nektar, which was hugely disappointing, as we would have liked to stay for a week! The smallholding is picturesque, with olive trees, vines, roses and sheep, against a backdrop of dramatic mountains. The cottage itself is simple and tasteful, with a wonderful covered veranda for relaxing in the shade. The lack of electricity was no problem at all, as there was plenty of light from the solar lamps, and we kept warm beside the fire in the evening. We will definitely be returning for a longer stay!"

"We had a fantastic stay at Klein Nektar. The attention to detail in the cottage is amazing and we were made to feel incredibly welcome. We will definitely be back."

"This cottage is just wonderful! It is as simple as that and the fact that the cottage has no electricity is just an addition to the charm. Light the fire place, make yourself a cup of the excellent coffee provided, lean back and read a good book. The cottage has everything you need and the hosts have eyes for details that will make you feel welcome and at home. We really enjoyed our stay here and we will definitely come back next time we visit Montagu."

"We had a great stay. The tranquility and lovely cottage was just what we wanted. Vernon was there to meet us - the hospitality was great and he couldn't do more to ensure a wonderful stay. It's walking distance to town but feels like you're far away on a farm. We would love to go back."
(visited Apr 2016)
"I can't sing Klein Nektar's praises enough. We didn't want to leave! Vernon was also so lovely and helpful and is such a genuine host. He felt like an old friend or family member that we had know for years. We fell in love the moment we arrived at the cottage. The fresh flowers, welcome drink, wood for the fire, tea, delicious coffee and milk in the fridge are such beautiful touches and it felt like we were staying in a B&B rather than a self catering cottage. Fresh towels, beautiful linen and wonderfully hot showers all just added to our incredible experience there. We spent hours outside on the stoep just watching the sky and marveling at the beauty all around us. Everything was just picturesque and perfect. We loved every single minute there. We left feeling refreshed and inspired. Thank you so much for sharing this little gem. We can't wait to come back!"

"Our stay at Klein Nektar Cottage was wonderful. The cottage is stunning - we only wish we had stayed for longer. Vernon and Kai were very helpful and welcoming. We definitely recommend it and will be back for sure!"

"Such an amazing place to stay and rest up. You wont believe this farm is actually in Montagu town itself. Our only regret is that we did not stay longer. We will be back."

"I needed to voice our compliments of the amazing Klein Nektar accommodation and the warm welcome we received from Vernon. You have created a magical getaway environment. We enjoyed every moment - we appreciate your eye for detail and loved the flower arrangements - so very cool. We will definitely be back."

"We had a wonderful weekend away at Klein Nektar. It is the perfect getaway to switch off from the hustle and bustle of life. We had a weekend of bliss and relaxation."
(visited Mar 2016)
"What a wonderful experience we had at Klein Nektar. I still can't believe the quality and classy nature of this place for the very reasonable price you pay. I suppose it's because of the lack of electricity but, quite frankly, we preferred having to rely on exquisite wall-mounted gas lamps, candles and a fireplace in the kitchen. The outside area and verandah are exquisite and so well maintained and the cottage sits on a beautiful olive farm. The amazing thing about Klein Nektar is that you are right in the middle of Montagu yet you feel as if you are quite remote. Also a very helpful host, Vernon, was unobtrusive but available for anything we needed. I've been to close to 50 Budget Getaway destinations over the past 15 years...and I have to say that Klein Nektar is my number one!"
