Budget Getaways Review
A working fruit farm, Le Domaine is conveniently appointed a mere 1km from Montagu - as such offering the best of both worlds.
There are five 3-star graded cottages facing Montagu's night lights and the dramatic circle of mountains looming above the town.
Although we haven't yet got to see them close up, the cottages appear unified by clean, fresh and simple decor and furnishings. Each comes with two bedrooms (with linen and towels), a shared bathroom, an open-plan living room with telly (but no fireplace), and an fully equipped kitchen with a mini-stove.
One of the cottages comfortably sleeps six, while the others can accommodate five, if you include the sleeper couch in the lounge.
While three of the cottages are set close to each other, the other pair offer slightly more privacy; therefore you may consider booking more than one, or taking the place as a whole for a convivial group getaway.
A stone lapa is available alongside a sparkling, fenced swimming pool, and is suitable for functions or family gatherings. The lapa has a fully equipped kitchen and includes seating, crockery, cutlery and glasses. It forms part of a cosy firepit braai area, with space enough for 30 guests. Use of the lapa is free if you book all the cottages.
Set right in the hub of things, Le Domaine offers more than enough to do, including an easy stroll up to a Boer War period English fort and a viewpoint of the valley, village and farm, plus a host of activities in and around Montagu itself - hikes, restaurants, hot springs, museum, rock climbing, Protea Farm's tractor ride/potjie, to name but a few.
Le Domaine is a neat and practical self-catering option near to all the action.
